Gr eat building, BUT …… Where are the lights?

Ground floor taking forever too. Not sure why this building is taking ages to finish; it topped out in Nov 2019 more than 3.5 years ago.

I’m guessing money is a problem. It is a very complex project. The lower level integration with a historic building, the tight construction site, the intricacies of the building itself, and the crane problems during a storm all add up. I also have no idea how sales have gone. I also wonder if insurance covered the crane issues and if there are background legal disputes over other construction issues like lighting.

This is a great building - but. The inception to completion has been fraught with lawsuits, construction delays, accidents, bankruptcies, etc. The time frame alone is bizarre; planning phase to still ‘uncompleted’ is what 10 -13 years.

There needs to be a book: the “Architectural Saga of 111 West 57th”… :star_struck:

I believe doing GOOD architecture does pay off in terms of ROI - but this one my not be the case.

The lighting firm still has it listed on their website:

We have seen nothing of the crown, even testing.

Also they were testing the cladding of the eastern and western facades but only little sections. The terra-cotta pieces were outfitted with LED strips before installation so the lighting is already there. I wonder if something went terribly wrong and they can’t get the lights to sync up or all turn on. But looking at the other projects this company has worked on, it just doesn’t make sense. So I have to hope that the work is intricate and that’s why it’s taking a while.

Edit: I just asked the question to JDS on their Insta and got this response:

Purely speculation but I’m guessing sales are slow which is putting a strain on JDS finances and slowing construction further. Maybe it’s just me but I think the interior design of the lobby and amenity spaces was a complete disaster. Tasteless is the word that comes to mind. The lobby looks like something you’d find at a casino on he Las Vegas strip. The over-use of gold, the gaudy faux plant, the tacky under-lit sofas are embarrassingly bad. Beautiful exterior / hideous interior.

Sheesh…The…yyy could have make those railings just slightly taller, just for the sake of extra safety…lol…Otherwise, totally extraordinarily wonderful.Quite unique, too:grimacing::exploding_head::sweat_smile::ok_hand:

Erik is really tall. that railing would probably be up to my chest.

…Oh,ok.I didn’t know that,so that handsome and se… fellow is that tall.Nice.
I’m 1.75 meters(5.7 ft),so I’m fine and therefore good to go,I think…Hmm??..Still a spectacular and unique view you sure do not want to miss out to witness on person, so it’s just all about to grip the chance as soon as you can and no matter what,I suppose.Right?..lol…:man_shrugging::sweat_smile:

I’m 5 foot 4 in, that railing would be above my head

Lol I’m 5 foot 10 inches and the railing would be neck to neck to the top of my head, or my head slightly above it
