Sigh. I had hoped the top of this building would grow on me. But sadly (for me!), it has not. An unfortunate end to an otherwise stunning building.
It’s the weirdest thing, you can only appreciate it if you view it from an angle, because it seems that’s the only way the glass louvers catch the light to produce the effect they were looking for.
Maybe they’ll cook up a lighting scheme at night to artificially achieve this look, but I think this is the best it will get during the daytime.

Yes, it does look better from an angle! Not only because of the way the glass louvers catch the light (beautifully, as your posted photos demonstrate!), but because the structural x-beams are less visible as well. Indeed, the whole tower looks better–more dynamic–from an angle.
It’s just a shame, in my view, that it doesn’t look nearly as good when viewed straight-on from Central Park, especially since that’s such a common vantage point, both in-person and in photography.
i think the full effect would have worked better if the top structure was a kinetic wind sculpture and moved maybe in a programmable pattern or something like that.
This tower is close to perfect to me! just beautiful!
I cant wait to see it fully lit up at night.
The little black tower behind it, to the right, the metropolitan tower is the same height as Denver’s tallest. That blows my mind!
As it’s close to the end of July, has anyone seen if they’ve added any additional illumination to the current lights show back in June? I’d like to make a trip out there in a few weeks with my camera, so it’d be great to capture some new pics (here’s one from October to add to this thread):
From the same photoshoot, I like how the rising sun is reflected in the bottom of the crown from this angle.
And the moire effect is in full swing.
I just noticed the crown on this one is similar to the top of One57. Hopefully the lighting scheme is good for the crown.
This is a nice profile shot, with a dark dramatic cloud formation as a back drop. This one is for the folks at shoP - most likely they all check in with YIMBY on a daily basis. This site has the best photos to feature the Architectural wonders of NYC…enjoy
Move over Chippendale Crown: there is a new kid in town…
This forum works out! And that glass looks just about done after the fixing, looks stunning!
Well I had predicted she would take the top spot, but she came in 2nd
