Looks like the cladding gap is gone, but now the strip that was damaged and removed needs to be filled as well…
Is this now the third incident??
this happens all the time in big construction projects. Media is blowing it out of proportion.
This tower is a beautiful tower but oh my lord, why are these contractors taking forever to fix this ongoing mess!!! And the crane they haven’t even taking it down yet🤡
True, just browse all of the violations on the city site
They can’t take the crane down until they have brought up all the materials they will need. They haven’t got delivery of all the new facade so it will need to stay up until then.
Also, it is moving extremely slowly right now precisely because of the violations and because they are under strict scrutiny by the DOB for the remainder of the external project.
To say nothing about the time it will take to fabricate and deliver replacement parts. This project still has lots of time before completion.
I wonder if they’re still doing interior work at the normal pace. Unless the damage holds up everything since everything is on a schedule
The positive take: this is the ‘shear’ luck that these two incidents of falling debris has not hurt anyone. The Covid epidemic has significantly reduced the number of pedestrian on the streets; under pre covid pedestrian traffic, this may have not been a ‘harmless accident’.
JDS needs to count their blessings, and get that site under control.
This is still a beautiful building; rivaled only by the enormous ‘entertainment value’ this project has provided us intrepid YIMBY forum members.
This guy posts come incredible videos of apartments in LA and he came to NYC to tour 111 West 57. Enjoy:
It really hurts to see this damaged
