@Springboss123_456 Beautiful pictures capturing aesthetics and action (people).
They removed the sidewalk shed last week, the majority of the plaza has been landscaped and I must say that it’s probably one of the most well designed plazas with a significant elevation change in the city.
So much progress and I’m always happy to see it!, They’ve also started installing the long line of bollards that mark the eventually extend of the new sidewalk on the 9th Ave side of Farley.
Blurry photo is blurry
The 9th Ave sidewalk of Manhattan west is so wide it’s so pleasant. Opening up the 31st St side will also be nice.
Honestly, I’d say that opening is imminent, they might repave the surrounding streets after removing the construction fencing, but it looks like all they need to do is install the sidewalk lighting, other than that Manhattan West is complete, what a long journey! Also progress on the Farley sidewalk.
I was looking at the website for Walter’s Group Steel (https://www.waltersgroupinc.com/) and found some nice Steel Porn from the project, but confusingly for a Steel company they mention 2 MW is 3 times heavier than 1 MW. I thought it should’ve been the opposite.
I’d assume they are talking about the weight of steel in each building since as it mentions, because 2 MW has a steel core vs 1 MW’s concrete core that it has much more steel so it’s heavier in that aspect, so it’s not really confusing. Even though 1 MW is 60’ taller, the buildings are relatively the same size by floor area, so factoring in that, 2MW is definitely heavier by steel content.
I didnt take any photos from my cell, maybe on the way back but do have the camera photos, but they’ve removed all the fencing and just have the little rope attachment posts blocking off the immediate area around Tower 2. It’s AMAZING how big the space feels now that the fencing has been removed! The streets definitely need to be cleaned though.
That is wonderful
The small building on the right is the Penn station Control/Command Center, so I’m not sure that could be disturbed to be demolished.
The larger awkwardly shaped building is an NYU dorm tower, which it’d be nice if NYU could demolish and build a new dorm highrise.
And the really small building was supposed to have been demolished and its little plot and the surrounding plot bordering Dyer Ave was supposed to be a new hotel, I can’t remember why it never got started though.
@mcart it most definitely is!
