Best building of the 21st century architecturally speaking
Are you including the south side of the building in this praise?
Yeah the south and north sides look the same unless I’m missing something
The south side is lined with graceless black louvers that look out of place and unfinished as they weren’t seamlessly integrated into the design or even planned for. The strip closest to the blow-through floor that doesn’t span the total width of the tower can be very awkward looking due to the angles of the building. They sometimes look asymmetrical which isn’t especially appealing.
The north side of the building is extremely attractive in the right lighting at the right angles. The problem with all glass is the major fluctuations in appearance depending on conditions. Many times the gradient is indiscernible or quite subtle which reduces the exterior to a massive green wall without any distinguishing features.
Strikes me with too much infill-esque architectural cues. It certainly stands out, but the design feels a bit lazy, a bit too Miami for Chicago.
