Paging through some of the older posts and 100% agree. Almost any angle from the north is iconic. From the south - especially when looking at it straight on is a big fail in my opinion. The western section is awkward and uncomfortably skinny from that perspective. And not to pile on, but those black mechanical grills are truly ghastly. If the southern elevation was done as well as the north it would be a top-ten building.
Very well said. The western elevation does indeed look awkward as you point out. The louvres were unquestionably a mistake. They are so blatantly executed that it looks amateurish. The spectators from the river will be dazzled by its elegance and height in most conditions. The iconic (postcard) south view is now somewhat depreciated unfortunately.
This is still under construction?
It’s amazing how cheap everything is in Chicago .
