California Transit projects

Like many regional lines in Southern California, the Ventura County Line has pathetic service on weekends:

Now they are making some changes to space out the trains a bit more evenly on Saturday:

  • Saturday train 162 will depart the Ventura-East Station 3 hours and 18 minutes later at 11:33 a.m. This is to provide more options throughout the weekend for Ventura County residents traveling toward Los Angeles. Metrolink passengers can also ride Pacific Surfliner codeshare trains 770 and 784.
  • Saturday train 163 is renumbered to 165 and departs LA Union Station 39 minutes later at 5:07 p.m.

Better than MARTA -

This is a big deal for downtown Los Angeles.

Seems like the logical thing to do would be get rid of most of that hill. -

Eastern extension of “A” train (sometimes anachronistically referred to as “Gold Line”) from Azusa to Pomona.

https://www.nytimes.com/2023/06/23/us/los-angeles-transit-regional-connector.html

Due to the addition of the downtown tunnel linking the Long Beach, Santa Monica, East LA and Azusa lines, the “A” line of the metro is now the longest light-rail line in the world. It is 48.5 miles long and will become even longer when the Pomona extension opens. The coastal tram in Belgium now becomes the second-longest light rail line in the world.

It was announced that electric train service between San Francisco and San Jose could begin as soon as September next year (though in reality I don’t see how they can get this started until 2028 at the earliest).
