There was a big hullabaloo during the pandemic when the Academy Awards were hosted at Los Angeles’ Amtrak complex.
Imagine is someone tried that with Grand Central or Penn. The hell that would be raised lol

As usual it’s not the modern high tech trains that are the problem, it’s the nearly 2 century old tracks it runs on
Some of the curves are just too sharp for more speed.
Which begs the question, why did they order these trains? Maybe it’s all that is available these days.
Are you joking?
Why would I do that.
The reasons for the new sets are plainly stated by Amtrak, as they’re required too.
The current acela train sets are reaching their end of life, and they are very, very outdated. Also the new sets are more capable than the old ones, though that benefit is blunted by the NEC being old and degraded.
I think advancements in things like tilting technology will still allow these trainsets to travel faster than the current acela fleet, but not anywhere close to their full potential.
Also, there are portions of the NEC that have been updated in recent years and so they can probably get up to higher speeds in those sections as well.
Wait, these are still testing? I believe I’ve already seen a few in Philly this year. I’m confused
They’ve been testing forever now. You’ll often see them on the NEC.
I’m all for speed. They banked the curves as much as they safely could for the old fleet. Maybe they can do a little bit more now.
