The Medford extension of the Green Line (MBTA trolley) is expected to open in late November 2022.
The Union Square branch opened in March 2022.
This is a huge improvement, but I would have preferred if that crappy concrete pos came down altogether.
Transit geeks and rail nerds are jumping for joy today.
The Green Line was finally extended to Medford, Massachusetts.
A new MBTA commuter rail station is scheduled to open in Pawtucket in late January 2023. This will become the sixth active passenger railway station in Rhode Island (three served exclusively by MBTA, two served exclusively by Amtrak and one served by both railroads).
The opening of the Pawtucket rail station has been confirmed. It will be January 23, 2023.

This isn’t directly associated with Boston but it does have to do with the MBTA which does service Boston. MBTA is potentially going to get some dual-mode Battery/Overhead Power EMUs for the Fairmount Line.
The dual-mode Battery/Overhead Catenary EMUs are nice. I envy the proposals they’re getting considering NJ Transit is getting garbage they still haven’t even received yet. I dig the Stadler set on the bottom (I like them all, tbh). That’d be perfect for NJT as it can allow for high-capacity one-seat rides to and out of Penn.
The set on the top right seems to be similar to CTRail’s new Alstom coaches so they probably won’t be delivered on time if they choose them but they do look nice.
The top left is just an electric Siemens Charger/SC-44 that will probably be bundled with Venture coaches. It’d probably work similar to Amtrak’s battery-electric proposal but instead of a diesel engine, it’d have a bank of batteries.
God, it seems like everyone but NJ Transit (and Metra) are getting nicer trains.
At this rate Boston might have proper electric commuter trains by 2100…
(Just put up the stupid wires already it’s not that hard)
If Caltrain could electrify their entire line then I don’t see why the MBTA can’t electrify the really busy lines.
