Nice!!
Kinda crazy that both of these projects were going on in 2008, both having good chances to succeed until well, ya know.
Also kinda crazy that NYC at the time would have had nothing of similar height to either until 6 years later when 1 WTC was completed.
Thanks for sharing my article!
Np. This would have been an amazing project for Philly. I hope something of this size gets planned again
Not a real concept, let alone a real proposal. Although it does look pretty cool.
The article details “DIALOG and partner EllisDon’s purely conceptual proposal would theoretically be constructed atop the current TTC bus terminal at Finch subway station, using a newly-patented hybrid timber panel system, or HTPS.”
The concept of the Zero Carbon Hybrid Wood Tower “serves to inspire architects to think bigger with materials not traditionally associated with skyscrapers in a push to offset the carbon consumption often associated with industries like concrete and steel production.”
Is that possible?
Timber supertall
I don’t believe this is an actual proposal, the article states the project is purely conceptual. It should probably be merged with the visionary projects thread.
Timber towers alone can still not be built to great heights due to weight, the tallest timber tower is only 284’ tall and even then is raised atop a 6-7 story concrete parking structure.
This supertall proposal is only employing floors made of timber, the support and columns would be concrete/steel.
Please merge ^^^^^
Oh wow if all of those proposals had been built, Philly would easily have the third best skyline in the country.
I agree! It would’ve rival both NYC and Chicago
^^
Wow
