Portland, ME | 45 Union Street | 380 ft | 30 floors

Maine’s new tallest building at 45 union street will be a mixed use tower with residential and hospitality.

Probably has a better chance of being built than this other Maine proposal:

Noooooooooo! Portland is a cool small city that is already getting too big. It’s vibe going to be ruined just like Austin if stuff like this gets built. Some cities shouldn’t be big. Portland is one of them.

I visit Portland almost every year and I feel like they should focus on making 5-8 story buildings in their center instead of a large tower but the city needs housing. I highly doubt Portland will be another Austin

I doubt this building is the answer to these needs.

It could become a climate change refuge.

From what I have been researching a “climate change refuge” is a fallacy. No where to hide on this speck in the universe.

We will all paint ourselves into a corner.

It just means Portland has jumped the shark.

Look at Halifax, which has a similar metro population as Portland but a real skyline, with thirty buildings taller than Portland’s tallest. Why shouldn’t Portland have tall buildings?

Because Portland has (had) a cool vibe that combined small city with a certain Maine quaintness. I guess it’s inevitable as people have discovered it, but similarly to what what happened with Austin, that discovery and growth is what is making it less of what people liked about it in the first place.

The only thing that works is kitchen-sink approach. Every bit helps

As far as Austin is concerned…

Reminds me of Ghorman

You replied to my mentioning the vibes in Portland and Austin. What does this rent chart have to do with that? Or are you talking about something else?
