Wow that sucks
Definitely sucks but hey if it’s going to result in long term improvements.
I often think the MTA could fix so much of the system if people would just accept they need to close lines down for a while. So now I’m trying to practice what I preach here and be cool with the Path shutdown. Hopefully it doesn’t affect trains to 33rd st
This whole music video is pretty much an ad for the Oculus.
Side note: this is how architecture succeeds, when it begins to become a part of our cultural fabric.
With the upmost respect to the lives that were lost and the spirit of that proposal, I think that’s taking it a little bit over-the-top. We already have the Reflecting pools, the Museum, Liberty Park, Tribute in Light, & the Empty Sky Memorial. The New WTC campus should be allowed to develop its own identity, without being totally inundated with the imagery and symbolism of the past.
Agreed. The existing memorial dominates the campus, in an appropriate way. This is wildly unnecessary. Westfield loves to fill the floor with obstructions to commuters just trying to get to their train. I wish the PA would put their foot down and insist that this function as a train station first. This definitely doesn’t help.
It’s just an “Inspirational art concept and vision” as noted in the description

“Eager to remain relevant in the rapidly changing world of retail, URW is adding more food choices, seating, pop-up shops, health and wellness options and entertainment (think virtual reality)”.
“ Landlord wants to transform transit hub into hip hangout spot”
“Later this year, URW plans to start spotlighting other emerging and high-end brands by featuring three- to six-month pop-ups in the center of the Oculus”.
This thing got ripped to shreds by both the media and the general public when it first opened thanks to the cost overruns and maintenance issues, but I think people are slowly warming up to it. Some might find it cold and sterile but I think it’s a spectacular public space. You just feel so special when you’re standing in it, like you’re in the hall of some 23rd century king.

The description for that should say “has been having problems”
Huh. It might leak when closed is a reason to not open it? ![]()
According to @nycurbanism on Instagram, they spent $30,000 on flex tape. So that’s why they’re loosing money lol
How long does it freaking take to fix this issue? They’ve known about this for about a year…but who are we kidding? The PA is a joke. It’ll never open again. Mark my words.
The Calatrava Curse compounded by the ineptitude of the PA… shudder at the thought.
“ The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has spent at least $50,000 sealing the retractable skylight with water-resistant tape after it sprung a leak in 2018, according to a person familiar with the skylight’s operation.
A spokesman for the public agency declined to confirm or deny that figure. But he said that the agency expects to spend a further $200,000 sealing the skylight with a waterproof membrane. That work is under way.”
“ The Port Authority spokesman said Thursday that the agency is conducting an engineering analysis with a view to repairing the skylight. “While that analysis is ongoing, we are taking prudent steps to better protect the skylight with a more durable barrier system,” he said.”
