NEW YORK | Where Would You Build A New Skyscraper?

I’d say that vision is probably 1350ish’ when compared to the NYT Building, definitely not anything past that. Outside of those 2 proposals, there are dozens of old proposal for towers that were proposed to be built atop of the current bus terminal building, but they are in no way apart of the same project currently planned if that makes sense.

I’m not sure I understand this question since there is no height for the Site 1 tower since no proposals have been made for it.

Hello, welcome to the forums!

Could the old Mcgraw Hill Building be completely eclipsed by Site 1? But the design of Site 1 is also influenced by the neighboring building? I can’t imagine all four towers of the PABT being taller than the established zoning and by the diagram. Site 1 could be very interesting since it is located next to the possible main entrance on 8th Ave. and also already because of the 3 million. How many free air rights are there around Grand Central Terminal? to possibly reach another 1000+ feet skyscraper.

Whoa whoa whoa, let’s take this one question at a time👍

The McGraw Hill building will be eclipsed by a neighboring building regardless because any building built on Site 1 will be taller than it, that is out of the question. Because no designs/developers have made any moves on the towers we can’t infer that a design would be influenced by its context, not that one would be since towers dont have to be designed to respond to their context and only have to conform to the zoning laws.

Separate massing from zoning diagrams/images, they do not depict/show the same thing. There is no established zoning other than the suggested floor area for each tower, no height has been mentioned. The images/renders of the tower massings are just massings, they do not represent the zoning envelopes, they just represent what can figuratively be built.

I’m not sure I fully understand this question, there is no plausible way to calculate the remaining air rights left in the area around GCT and I’ve mentioned before that air rights/floor area don’t equate to height. One can only calculate the remaining air rights of individual sites themselves. I/one cannot answer questions about theoretical heights, its not possible to answer those types of questions.

How about a bunch of these for Stuytown?

Unpopular opinion, but I’d like a skyscraper complex at the Seaport next to the Brooklyn Bridge.

2 WTC

I know that existing skyscrapers cannot simply be copied to other cities.

But would it be possible to reconstruct a similar building in the ground plan and structure (Vierendeel frame) especially on the site of 2 WTC. The building I am talking about is the Commerzbank Tower completed in 1997 by Sir Norman Foster.

This is the model of the structure of the tower recognizable are the core column which are called mega column in the book and the typical Vierendeel frame.

Why is the construction of 2 WTCs at rest? Weren’t all four towers originally supposed to be built at the same time?

I think so. I believe I saw a video somewhere where it showed all four towers being constructed at the same time. If there were no setbacks and the Great Recession in 2008, Tower 4 would be completed first (if you exclude Tower 7), followed by Tower 1, Tower 3, Tower 2, and finally Tower 5 (similar to the current development process in real life)

2 WTC is currently on-hold since mid-2013 due to the lack of tenants

What location in Midtown would be perfect for the Signature Tower in Jakarta?

A base that wide? The PABT, and that’s really all I can think of.

I’m only counting the main tower itself, not the smaller additional towers connecting to it

any of the blocks with dated hotels above Times Square between 7th Ave. & Broadway. like the Manhattan Club or the Sheraton.

Thank you guys for those interesting locations :+1:

An idea I drew of a step back spiral skyscraper with two different roofs depending on wether the facade is glass or more art deco inspired. About 1500 feet tall 1175 roof height

Boca Chica, Texas.

Hudson yards or Busterminal

Roosevelt island could take a 350m/1200ft building that wide in one side and thin on the other, the taller the better.
A massive development between Manhattan west & PABT and behind Hudson yards, with skyscrapers 150-400m
A skyscraper complex in the parking lot between javits center and western yards
The casino should be built in battery park city.

I’d build the tallest in the U.S. right where the 55 Hudson parcel is in Jersey City. While something is planned to rise there, I’d do it just to annoy NYC. This way it will motivate them to build higher than 1 WTC with the spire!

Call it the Murphy Tower.
