The Upper West Side historic district is still pretty big: I don’t think it will lose its character anytime soon.
Sold for $190M.
Hopefully that means the rehab will be wrapped up quickly.
What a bargain! I mean, that’s the Flatiron Building for God’s sake!
Emily Gallagher says we can’t allow office conversions because the windowless bedrooms will cause Covid. God, I hate these people so much! Why can’t they just move to San Francisco?
That’s not what she said. Please read the article you linked more carefully. I don’t think anyone is against finding innovative solutions to support denser urban cities, but not at the expense of units not having access to sunlight/ windows. Ms. Gallagher mentions tenement laws that required windows so cramped living conditions would at least have access to fresh air and sunlight. She makes no mention of office conversions either.
The Mayor’s speech was about office conversions. There’s no way to convert most of these office buildings without fixing the city’s current codes.
My favorite quote from the above linked article. These are truly 'interesting times’.…
“When you’re just sleeping, it should be dark, you know,” he said.
Our current Mayor is a disaster.
If you work the night shift, I can see it being a perk. Especially because windows let in a lot of sound too.
Thoughts and prayers (Financial District)
Earlier this year (Herald Square)
I’d love to see 56 Broadway redeveloped. It’s a banal metal box. I think that the UFT has offices there too though.
More for the Q&A side of things but I found this video pretty neat (for any folks that haven’t been to NYC or visiting for the first time).
Top 10 Rules for driving in NYC;
This does not cover any sort of PTSD related issues that may stem from driving on certain days or the Cross-Bronx, just as a disclaimer. For that, there’s medication for that!
Fires erupting in the Western suburbs. This season we’re looking like the West Coast. Wouldn’t believe it if I didn’t see the smoke and soot.
The super dry heat the past few days are partly to blame unfortunately. Even Jersey City saw some brush fires at Liberty State Park on Thursday.
The NYPD may start adding robots to their ranks.
Hopefully the MTA starts adding cleaning robots that can help keep the subways clean.
