At least it’s a basic line of defense for the individual, and if ownership restrictions are removed and the locations prominent and easy enough to access, citizens may be incentivized to at least get some basic training. Of course, a basic psychological screening and physical analysis comes to mind, so you don’t have schizos and sociopaths with guns, but to give old ruth across the hall a gun? I’m all here for that.
Look, if you leave your house and move about in the real world on a regular basis, you will notice there are dozens if not hundreds of instances in NYC any given day that you just thank God no one had a gun on them at the time. Society would probably collapse. This isn’t a giant suburb like Dallas where the only frustrations happen at the drive-through window. Many, I think most, mass shooting events in the US start as arguments, not ‘live shooters’ or whatever.
What I meant to say is that in almost every news article/breaking news, it always (if often) has to be a man showing up as a suspect, whether it’s for stabbing, shooting, or other criminal acts.
We literally already have more guns than ever other developed nation yet we have way more gun violence. The “more guns” argument has been disproven over and over and over again.
Police found the u haul van they were looking for a bit outside of two miles from the subway station. They knew about the van because the suspect somehow left behind their credit card at the station. Oops. Bomb squad should be getting there about now.
The crime rate in states with lax gun control and stand your ground laws is worst than NYC. Add to that, those locals have a fraction of the amount of people this city has. NYC is generally a safe city (by American standards). So the idea of everyone having firearms especially in a packed subway car is outrageous and asking for even more trouble than we already have.
33 rounds of 9mm expended in the close quarters of a subway car. Amazing that ‘only’ 10 people got hit. Also, he had gasoline and fireworks. The authorities were very specific in not calling the person of interest the suspect, so there might be some conflicting witness descriptions to the photos above.
Also, police found a key to the U-Haul van, not a credit card as initially reported. Or maybe both? Seeing conflicting reports. The possession of either doesn’t immediately correlate to guilt though

How much more of these psychopaths roaming the streets before society seriously discusses re-institutionalization?
Don’t hold your breath. Whatever the media will tell you these politicians are doing or are not doing, it’s going to be twice as worse. Don’t trust either the politicians or the media.
California is one of the most in demand places on the planet and the prices reflect that. Same goes for NY. Florida is full of tons of crazy “Florida Man” type people. Just because you see a handful of idiots in the news doesn’t mean the sky is falling. People need to stop being so dramatic.
