Antibodies lag by three weeks, and testing (sample size almost 1,300 in NYC) shows 21%+ have them already. Which means the real rate could easily be 30-40%+, and that it is time for NYC to re-open, as herd immunity is likely imminent and we have passed the halfway point of infections without overwhelming the hospitals.
I don’t know why masks haven’t been mandated for everyone leaving the house yet, but reopening and mandating masks is the only viable path forward at this point.
The governor announced last week that it was required to wear masks, but without any fine if you didn’t.
“ New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo will sign an executive order that requires everyone in the state to wear a mask or a mouth/nose covering in public when not social distancing, he said Wednesday.
There will be a three-day notice period before the order is enforced, allowing New Yorkers to secure masks or coverings. He said he is considering a civil penalty for those who break the rule.”
It is totally toothless. It also has the caveat “when not social distancing”. It should just be mandatory for whenever someone is in public. The “guidelines” of six feet of distance have been debunked anyways.
Agreed. Seen a lot of people without masks after this order was given. Got to scare people with a crazy amount of fines to get people to follow the rules.
Cities in Asia, like Singapore, have been doing well getting people to acclimate to social distancing standards. I’m sure the city will have to eventually put in their own measures since not everyone is wearing a mask when they should be.
Almost every building in Manhattan has got their permits back. Any high-profile development seems to qualify as “essential facility” or “essential business” or both. No idea why, but I’m not complaining. About time.
To be clear, the developers are apparently committed to trying to be safer with work. Less people on the job at once until the official PAUSE order ends. In commercial neighborhoods, this might mean 24/7 work, with three 8 hour shifts, so the same amount of work per day = much less crowding
Haven’t seen a mask for sale in months. How does one ‘secure’ one if you’re going to require things? What has gov cuomo done to make sure that his citizens have access to one, other than try to look presidential during his daily press briefings?
Is there a list somewhere that tracks all of the buildings built in the past decade or so and that are proposed/underway that used these kinds of air-rights transfer rules?
NYC thousands of people ignoring the ‘stay-at-home’ order. Lined up along hudson river to view the air show - Blue Angels. Salute to all the healthcare workers who will soon need to get back to the hospitals to treat the upsurge spread of the virus resulting from people crowding together to see the show: these are some crazy and inconsistent policies, and procedures for coved-19 pandemic in NYC hotspot.
you don’t need to socially distance if you wear PPE. Otherwise everything including essential businesses would be shuttered now. In all of these photos in which internet warriors are complaining about social distancing, I see almost everyone wearing masks. Also, there is no “Stay at home” order for individuals in New York State (not sure about NJ). The executive orders only pertain to businesses. The state has ordered 100% of employees to work from home if they are not essential. The police aren’t going to arrest you if you don’t have an essential reason to be outside. Nor is it irresponsible.
The only order that applies to individuals is that you need a nose/mouth covering if you aren’t practicing social distancing.
You are free to go out at your own risk, but not at the risk of others. That’s why you need to wear a nose/mouth covering in places where social distancing are not possible.
People all of the United states are getting angry because of what happened with this horrible virus. The government failed us and I’m hoping that people come together and we demand these politicians out and we rewrite the laws. I know I’m going far but I don’t care but these big corporations need to shot and killed for a lot of shit they did.
I am actually OK with this crowed: just poking fun at all the hysteria over this virus - then see these crowds of people huddled together. I am not angry, but I think many people have a right to get mad about the massive shut-down of the NY economy - many people suffering the ‘economic’ consequences.
I don’t know, but from what I have gleaned from various sources - the ‘shut down’ is an ill advised move that I think was/is far too excessive. I agree, some of those responsible need to be ‘shot’ - a big shot in the arm with that phony Bill Gates vaccine.
the shutdown was very necessary so the healthcare system wasn’t overwhelmed. But yeah we need to be moving forward soon. The vast majority of the workforce (millennials/gen z) is not at risk. The elderly should continue their self isolation. It looks like construction is leading the way towards reopening things.
There is a ‘stay at home’ order still in place: and might be extended into May. I think it is fine for those folks to go out: just poking fun - the order seems excessive and unnecessary IMHO. He does still as -stated here - advise resident to stay at home.
the stay at home is an advisory towards individuals, not mandatory. It is mandatory for businesses that are not essential. A business can be fined for not complying. An individual is not going to be detained and fined for being out in public without a reason.
As you can see it is an ‘order’ advising - very confusing. Ok, I should have said - "thousands of people ignoring the ‘stay at home’ ADVISORY. That is good to know it is not an ORDER - I am tired of staying home.
I see what you mean. I’m inclined to blame the media for not making this clear. Executive Orders are law, but it’s important to be made aware of the details. The orders in New York State have always been about businesses, not people.
