NEW YORK | Various News About Our City and Q&A

From what I understand any projects with affordable components can continue construction. E.G., most residential in NYC.

This has 4 affordable rental units: explains why I see construction going on today.

What I wish New Jersey and New York would do is freeze rent payments like many other countries have done, right now with the small amount of unemployment I get I cant make my rent, and I am already a month behind. Worst is I cant just job hunt as most offices are either trimming their budget fat or just aren’t growing at all. My landlord already texted me he needs to speak to me this weekend, I am anxious about how this will roll out.

Tell him to wait for the $1200 check they are sending: and he will get paid his rent. Then if you need to get tough: tell him you are unable to pay and refuse to move. He can not ‘by law’ remove you from the property or lock you out: he will need to go to court and start a legal evection process - that will take at least a year. That is all within your legal rights - so don’t back down.

While yes it is within my legal rights and evictions are frozen at the moment, after this all ends having an eviction show up on your record will make any future apartment hunting a nightmare as most landlords when they do a background check would refuse a tenant with a previous eviction.

The Westchester number is encouraging considering it was probably the first hot spot in the country. They seem to be flattening their curve, and we’ll need their hospitals.

As seen in China and Italy, the virus, even with a somewhat botched response, seems to go through its phases very rapidly; Italy’s daily case increases have essentially leveled out. Seems like Westchester is in a similar stage and maybe NYC soon as well— the issue is that because of this whole “curve flattening” from the lockdowns, the # of new cases per day levels out quickly, but its still a lot of new patients since the hospital discharge rate is much less than intake. Slow but unrelenting growth…

Has anybody thought about how the city should be doing all sorts of construction projects right now? Think about all the roads they could fix while they’re empty. Then just have the construction workers self quarantine afterwords.

good to see NJ ramping up testing. In the future they’ll look back and see how the tri state is leading the country in combatting the virus. I don’t know how effective California is being with their numbers.

I work as a consultant and all work literally dried up. I’ve got savings but this is untenable.

Sadly here in the US we protect the 1% who own everything. That 1% wants all your savings.
