Making the area surrounding the Vessel an outdoor seating area covered with these “shade structures” would be both beautiful, and effective. The ‘jumpers’ may bounce off and hit the ground; but at least the fall would not be fatal in most cases.
That fish-net fix spoils the viewing experience for me: not a good solution IMHO.
Surround the whole circumference with many of these shade structures and problem solved.
