I love this tower. It’s unique and dramatic. This photo by JC is particularly impressive.

Same with this one by Nick F

Finally completed! :tada:

Completed but not attractive. Just a big hulk to me. It might have worked with another spiral or two but I guess the developers didn’t want to lose the square footage that would have caused. Too bad that dollars again won out over good architecture.

I think that 66 Hudson Blvd is a beautiful building and I am glad to have been a small part of the construction team. Soupy - Project Manger at www.gunderlin.com

I’ll just agree to disagree. Different aesthetic judgements are both common and helpful. The all glass exterior is another problem for me among what has become a forest of that version of modernity. The one feature I do like is the way the spiral setbacks were handled with darker glass and hopefully what will become very visible plantings over time. If they end up as evergreen and draping over the sides of the balconies the bulkiness of the building might become a bit more attractive. The architects clearly tried to do something different. Though their effort doesn’t work for me that doesn’t bar me from giving them a “K” for close without my intending that as an insult.

But is this really a criticism of this building or a general trend? What I’d like to see is more different colors of glass. Like The Brooklyn Tower. Glass exteriors are going nowhere but they could be a lot more interesting

I love the Brooklyn Tower. It’s an amazing building. I love glass, but not as the sole or almost sole facade material without any variation on the theme. I live in an ugly 70s building but the windows are large and the apartments are light and bright. It’s’ just the sameness and repetitiveness that is getting to me. When that sort of facade first began it was new and even welcome. When done well and cleverly as in Lever House, it was a jewel. But unless it’s done extremely well and with some way of relieving the sameness it has become cliche. That is why the major feature of the Spiral I like is the change in glass coloring in the windows of spiral balconies. That also is why I give the thing a “K” for close.
