NEW YORK | The Spiral (66 Hudson Blvd) | 1,040 FT | 66 FLOORS

This is not a graceful assemblage.

it’s not a complete assemblage.

The billion dollar question is wether we will get the trees and greenery along the setbacks of the spiral.
That for me is what will determine wether this tower is a good addition to the city or not.
Unfortunately most renders that promise abundant greenery on buildings usually only provide a single sad tree or nothing at all.

I can’t remember where/when I read an article about how development firms were habitually “green-washing” renders to give a false impression of more out door space and environmentally friendly elements. I believe they were actually starting to get called out on it because (as you said) none of them would actually follow through with the promised greenspaces. They’d just leave them as blank, concrete balconies.

I agree, the addition or lack of trees will be a determining factor in how well this turns out.

Plus there’s the question of weather vegetation can survive, let alone thrive.

They have already started planting trees on the spiral. The entire west facing lower level has a lot of green already.

Even if they do follow through with the green spaces, it’s usually still greenwashing because a few plants do not negate the carbon footprint of a large building. I love Little Island, don’t get me wrong, but it’s a prime example of greenwashing because all of those lush gardens on top can’t cancel out all of the concrete holding it up (concrete is one of the most carbon-intensive and environmentally unfriendly substances in construction). So go ahead, they can call Little Island a beautiful new public space or whatever, but don’t try to claim it’s environmentally friendly, because it’s not. That’s greenwashing.

As far as this building goes, I like the ziggurat concept but the facade is painfully dull and it should’ve spiraled up another rung. At least they are actually planting the gardens. Hopefully the plants will survive the winter.

Yeah I still stand by what I said a little while back. This needed one more cake tier. Another spiral around.

Baronson, I agree. As it is the building is kinda boring.

Honestly so far I’m a little underwhelmed by this building too. I thought I would prefer this one over 50 Hudson but so far I actually like the latter more. Sure 50s overall design shape is boring but I think the cladding really stands out more. I’ll have to wait till both are finished to fully judge

??? The building is still under construction. I look at that photo and see proof that they are in the process of planting at least one tree on every terrace. I see that as very good news.

I don’t care about the size, the mass is overwhelming and amazing. Overall, I’m actually loving this and how everything is turning out

If the lighting is for real it will help, at least at night. But i’m still not excited about this building.
