The Spiral-mirror ! ![]()
The glass looks great.
The glass does look good. But good grief. Another glass biggie in an area that already has too many. At this point enough is enough. The building’s saving grace will be its interesting shape and foliage hanging over the sides of the balconies.
I agree that stone is nice, but office towers worldwide rarely use it. I’ve heard that modern glass is energy efficient – perhaps that’s the reason why glass is ubiquitous.
Hopefully, Phase II will have a lot of stone towers.
I’m warming up to this building a little. At least it tapers -
Walpole: I certainly agree that stone can be nice if used well as in some of Stern’s buildings. But there are a variety of other materials that can be mixed in with glass that also are efficient including an infinite number of metal substances shipped in myriad ways, or facades with mixed compositions. We shouldn’t be limited to glass. Other materials also are now efficient. individually I really like some of the HY buildings, especially 35 and 15. But glass is getting out of hand in the area.
I say bring on the glass. These reflecting mirrors varying from 700-1,300 feet high are quite impressive to me. But yes, I’d like to see more stone and metal cladding
At least 50 HY has the marble to break up the glass. This building is just a towering shard like 10, 30 and 15. Manhattan West is a worse offender though. Walking up Tenth Avenue next to 5 Manhattan West is overwhelming in a bad way.

Can’t wait to see the cladding on the terraced sections to break up all that monotonous glass
At least the glass looks high quality.
