NEW YORK | The Big Bend (57th Street) | ~2,162 FT | FLOORS

The race to build the world’s most spectacular skyscraper has reached new heights - and taken a turn in direction.

Designs for ‘The Big Bend’, a slender tower that would transform Manhattan’s skyline, have been unveiled.

Described as the ‘longest building in the world’, the project’s concept drawings reveal a skyscraper reaching an apex then curving back down. And featuring an elevator system that can travel in curves, horizontally and in loops.

Stretching 4,000ft-long, the glass-lined tower would need to feature an elevator that goes far beyond all current designs.

Not excited because this is not going to happen.

Personally, I think the same, this is why I have put it in “Visions”

I’m not really interested on this one either. The other towers will be enough and beautiful as well.

Six Flags has called looking for their skyscraper. What should we tell them?

I wish this would happen, just because it’s amazing how tall a 1900-2000 foot tall tower will look in the skyline.

While it most likely won’t be this tower, it’s exciting to see such a render.

This tower really looks like a thinner and curved version of 432 Park Avenue, The tower isn’t that bad but I don’t think this will be approved, at least not this design, I would rather have a 600 meter tower like the Bank of America tower than this

This building makes our skyline ugly. I hope the 1WTC remains the highest!!

While I’m excited to see a megatall in NYC within my lifetime, I really don’t like this one. It looks like a cheap carnival ride in my opinion. Or that stupid paperclip that tries to help you in word

Agreed. Another super tall on either side would make this the first anthropomorphic building on the skyline. I think we can do without the EffYou Clippy Building.

I understand the hesitation as this building is rather ugly. With that said, I think NYC deserves a megatall. It’s always been the lifeblood of the city to challenge the status quo. I don’t think it is a question of if, but when. I just hope it happens sooner rather than later.

LOL - nicely done. You have just rendered the first elevator eyes in history.

This would be a revolutionary building and a great megatall if it werent for the fact its so ugly. Shame. Sad. (like trump would say)
Hopefully next cycle we will get our megatall.

And How the hell are they gonna build it…

I think our talented buddy Tom Koloski did a render including how it would be built. Just scroll to the bottom of that thread

Also, I found the closest height

Thank you Tom, what is your personal opinion about this building?

this concept would be much more eye pleasing if both “legs” were in adjacent lots, or even diagonally across the street from each other. Also the top being rounded like that looks kinda corny. It would look awesome if in my closer together concept toward the top they angled toward each other to top off at a point.

Here is my design (see of this works)

Ignore the dots, had to put them in there for formatting. The solid lines are sky bridges.

Without the sky bridges it’s still better than the arch proposal.
I would prefer something like the Bank of America building shape wise not cladding wise , I might make a sketch on paper of a megatall design I would like to see one day [quote=“tokilamockingbrd, post:19, topic:3473”]
