I think with the crown they just got lazy, went to Home Depot, got some PVC piping and just super glued it all together.
I agree that the building design doesn’t work. But I think the real problem is not the steeples but the harsh X shapes just below. Imagine the building with clean-lined facing. I think it would then be much much better.
It’s a great point, I think the giant Xs everywhere make it harsh, the parapets make it look cheap and tacky - all in all, visually not a good thing
To me, the worst thing is the concrete, it is bland, looks unfinished and gives no contrast to the equally bland glass. And we’re talking about the building’s nicer side, not that southern wall… Im not sure it’s fixable.
I got an idea to fix this sucker up:

This is my new favorite building…to puke off of on St. Patrick’s Day
As if this building weren’t odd enough, they managed to do something really weird with the street-level façade. The awnings were just installed. I guess this is how they’re leaving it? I think it’s really unfortunate how the columns are granite and then just abruptly end, with concrete continuing the rest of the way up. There’s no transition and the granite isn’t flush with the concrete. It just looks lazy. Not a fan of the awnings, either.
I actually like the look of the raw concrete and big concrete "X"s of the mechanical floors. It’s everything else they added to the building that just makes it looks like a disjointed mess. So many conflicting ideas and architectural styles… ugh.
ugh they added lights up top. Just what we needed, something to further draw attention to this tower.

Haha. Yep. They just keep trollin’ downtown with this hot mess. Anything not worth doing is worth doing wrong, I guess.
I think it could have been a okay building without the giant X shapes everyone and that cheap looking crown.
the granite base must take the price
I love the "X"s and the industrial, modern look. I just wish they’d stuck with that motif instead of trying to blend in several other ideas and styles.
I think the whole building makes more sense if viewed in context with the historic 5 Beekman building it’s connected to… but from a random vantage point it’s actually absurdly ugly.
I’m going to move this POS to completion, its pretty much a wrap. Terrible tower. Fortunately, the developments on Park Row will help to mask this.
From the back (which I think is the “entrance” ?? At least you can’t see parapet things from down here!

Not a huge fan of this tower, but I do like the little triangles on top
Pace is an anathema. P.U. is an apropos moniker.
I don’t doubt a lot of people like the floor-to-ceiling and wall-to-wall windows; or that type of interior space would not be so ubiquitous in high rise condo buildings - but not my preference.
If window walls, and high ceilings are to your liking this condo has nice interiors. The aesthetics of the architectural design is attractive; but a bit quirky. Those X braces up top has made for some interesting window frames.
