I just walked by tonight and oh my… This is already so much taller than I realized from the photos. This is actually quite vertical. This isn’t the base for the cube. This is the cube.

Yea, I believe the level that has the truss structure should make the cube. But they definitely need to finish the base first

I’m getting the sense they are building a lot of the cube frame, or at least the truss, before they finish encapsulating the base. The steelwork connecting the cube to the VHC will be encased in the concrete work, and the diagonal slopes of the cutout entrance seem to be incorporated into the base structure rather than the steel above structure.

This whole place is coming together like an insanely complex puzzle. I walk by this many days a week and there is a lot more random bits of rebar and steelwork than you can see clearly from the webcam.

That seems impossible to me because the trusses will have to hang over the Fulton street steps to make that triangular cut entrance. I would think they’d pause steel for a bit, finish the base, then set up scaffolding to hold up the steel for that public entrance. My guess, not the truth

They’re using those latticey steel things lying around the site as scaffolding.

You mat be right, at least for me I just figured the truss is so far suspended above the rest of the base I can see it being fully built out and not providing an issue for access to the base.

Great shots!! I really like how you got the first steps taking shape!

Thanks! Yeah, I did not expect to see that. And… I assume that’s what that is, right?

Looking closer at the recent Earthcam post

You can see giant two concrete molds shaped like steps, this has to be them starting

Oh absolutely. Nice catch.

A mockup of the marble facade daytime vs nighttime. This will look incredible

I’m going to be negative here but once people start putting boxes/crates up against these walls it’s going to look different at night.

what?

The backlighting of the stone is part of the wall system. its not the ambient internal light that creates that effect

My guess is that the lighting is going to be between the glass and the stone.

There is no glass.

Yeah there is, isn’t the marble layered in it?

The marble will be laminated between two pieces of glass that are then insulated, protecting the building and creating an energy efficient seal. The facade will allow light in during the day and out in the evening. Despite its lack of windows, the movement of light through the facade will break the idea of theater as hermetic box. Blackout shades will be at the ready throughout the building, but won’t be fixed in place.”
