I would love to see a city like Patterson NJ go through a revival. That town could be beautiful with some investment. It’s a great distance for an easy commute to the city.

It seems like Jamaica Queens is right now the biggest beneficiary of GCM and the Penn improvements. Massive housing boom and gentrification going on. When you consider the commute, it makes some sense.

Found a rendering of what the proposed new design interior looks like.

How recent is that rendering?

They are recent by about 2 weeks.

I would be happy with this plan since it looks so much better than the state’s renderings (which look like some suburban mall) and it spruces up the MSG facade.

This plan is an incredibly realistic and viable solution since it is still very unlikely MSG will move. The design and finishes in the renderings are really nice and it looks inviting while accomplishing the task of giving NYC a “world-class” Penn Station that isn’t a basement or completely sucks.

It also addresses the issue of MSG being incredibly ugly by reskinning it as well.

I don’t think that it reskins MSG. Only the lower half seems to be covered. The upper half still remains as is.

The top half is getting some sort of skin it looks like. Look closely and you will see there is some sort of cladding over the actual facade.

lame

and the fact that Chakrabarti now “joins” the design team means nothing grand will happen on this site for another 50 years…oh well, just think of how much technology will advance by then…MSG sphere who lol

Not to mention something like 75% of LIRR riders enter Penn through 7th, and to my knowledge, this half-assed plan does not address the lousy conditions there.

I’d put an Age of Ramses symbol, but I don’t want to trouble the pathetic babies on this forum who will ask the “mods” to remove it.

The new proposal doesn’t need to address the 7th Ave entrance because that’s already been/is being addressed with the renovations that have already taken place. It just needs to tie into the LIRR concourse modifications, not redo it all.

It’s insane that a desperately needed world class transit hub that would be used by MILLIONS, is being held up by a hand full of mega rich dudes who will never use public transit.

Welcome to America.

Yes like TK said, the big bank of escalators feeding into 32nd St is currently closed off, I’m guessing in conjunction with the reclad and I’m sure the whole mess is being redone.

I only used Penn for work, and I’m retiring in January, so I will never use Penn again in my life. However, to let the Garden remain above Penn is a massive mistake. While I won’t use it, this superficial “fix” is an insult to the 650,000 commuters who use it daily.

This plan is better than nothing, but NYC can do better.

While I agree, if there’s no current mechanism to move MSG, it makes sense to do the best we can with the available possibilities.

I want MSG moved too, but this plan is pretty good. The current Penn is finally pretty nice, with the Moynihan Hall and the impressively rebuilt LIRR concourse. This will make Penn a world-class facility. Down the road, there will be Penn South, with the additional tracks and huge new southern concourse, and NJT will eventually have to expand/rebuild its ridiculously small facilities. So it’s a step in the right direction.

I’m also not sure where MSG should go. Hudson Yards West would have to be radically rethought to accommodate an arena. And no way is Related giving up any of its massive development rights. So not sure there’s an alternative location right now.

I mean didn’t related offer HY to Dolan?
