NEW YORK | Penn Station Expansion/Improvements

I didnt read. If its for the right of way portion of tunnel under the western yard, thats probably a good figure

That previous article was worded slightly strange to make it seem like it was for more than just the ROW casing for the tunnel, but the article that was linked on the Hudson Yards Phase II thread mentioned that it was only for the tunnel casing.

So when the tunnel casing is complete, it’s off to the races with phase 2?

no. i wouldnt expect phase 2 anytime before 2030 unless related gets the casino license or MSG.

This should be Madison square garden thread as it does not relate to ongoing Penn station capital improvements/expansion

There is in fact a thread for MSG. I agree, all the will they / won’t they speculation about a move should probably take place there. Though in my estimation, say, things like proposals to replace the stadium with a train shed belong in this thread too.

Yeah, I don’t envy the admins on this one. An MSG move would obviously affect the plans for Penn Station in a major way, so one could argue every article about a move is relevant to both threads. A good rule of thumb might be: unless there’s concrete info about how an MSG move would affect the station plans, the article doesn’t belong here.

He’s posting the same article in multiple threads. No bueno.

Has any thought been given to through running at Penn Station? Ig same with GC. Just having the trains stop there is quite inefficient. Though idk how expensive that would be

I want to say that I previously read an article or study about it and that it would definitely be more efficient, but I can’t remember where I read/saw it, or why it was decided to not be done.

That would be a colossal waste of money.

yeah no one is paying to replace MSG with a 69 foot obelisk lol

You could still build supertalls all around the park lol. The park would just be a nice place to sit and hang out when people first arrive in the city. Instead of throwing them onto the sidewalks like we do now.

St. Peter’s Square has one of the other two obelisks and has the same type of design I want for Penn Station.

Again, this is the Penn Station thread, not Madison Square Garden. Also, how will it be feasible to replace MSG with a park?

  1. This is my plan for Penn Station, not MSG.

  2. That’s like asking “How was it feasible to build St. Peter’s Square instead of just putting a bunch of skyscrapers in the middle?” It pays for itself. It would make NYC a much nicer and more walkable city. It alleviates sidewalk congestion. It would turn the Penn Station area into one of the world’s most iconic locations for tourists. A nice new park will inspire lots of luxury real estate projects in the area.

What a difference. Does anyone know if the bowling alley is still in the station?

The bowling alley is in Port Authority Bus Terminal, not Pennsylvania Station.

There was a giant bowling alley built as part of the original MSG.
