It basically summarizes two trends–the governor getting pushback at an intensity he did not expect and the nature of neighborhood opposition. The pushback the paper says is because of Cuomo’s loss of authority, local politicians who object to the city’s rules being totally overruled and ignored, and neighborhood objections. The “neighborhood” objections are really not local, but broadly based since the area has virtually no residents. That both increases the intensity of the pushback and reduces the NIMBY factors because their are virtually no neighbors.
I agree with @chused. Some people can’t seem to comprehend how can this city still have demand or speculation for more skyscrapers… So they complain and will definitely try to derail Cuomo’s proposal for the area.
NYC is the capital of the Universe!!! LOL
So is that option of raising the ceilings actually occurring? This is just ridiculous. MSG should come down. Doesn’t the operating permit end in 2023?
Wow! There’s plenty of space to raise the ceilings, which will help a lot. Some of the ceilings in Penn Station are so low that the signs block each other when viewed from regular person height.
“The environmental approval means the Gateway Project can move into high gear to do work needed to get to the construction phase.”
Seems that most creative/tech/media places are adopting a 2-4 day office week as standard. As long as people still have dedicated desks this doesn’t really change their footprint, and since most places are suggesting certain days of the week are all hands at office, hot desking won’t become too prevalent. At least hopefully not, I hate hot desking. Having your own desk is the best.
NJ Transit is continuing to restore service, including some trains in and out of Penn Station.
Another train being restored tomorrow
Ronkonkoma Branch : An additional mid-evening westbound train has been added to the schedule. This train will depart Ronkonkoma at 9:08 PM , make local stops through Jamaica, then run express to Penn Station (arriving at 10:38 PM ).
1 Penn’s crown is lit this evening.
Yeah it goes all the way around now. It’ll be interesting to see what they do with it once they move beyond test patterns.
a shame they didn’t demolish 5 Manhattan West as part of an over-arching masterplan for the west side. The HY mall sucks too.
From the press release. I wonder if they can just keep extending this to the end of 30th and 9th too. Also quite narrow considering the foot traffic that will be generated.
Metro North / Penn Station access update
That’s great news!
