Anyone notice they finally put the brightness back up at the base of the mast? They dimmed the hell out of it a number of years ago when people thought the smoke from the vents up top was fire coming from the tower. At least it’s looking halfway decent at night again.

Definitely has seemed better this winter.

Cool I’m not going crazy. Wasn’t sure if it was wishful thinking.

It’s definitely brighter.

The beacon is also strobing?

Woah I wonder what the sudden care to the mast is all about.

It looks more like an FAA warning light since it’s only rapidly flashing and not rotating.

The original design worked more like what you’d find at an airport. Here’s a video from 2014 showing its intended operation.

The flashing has been there for a few months now (refer to my post here).

Whatever it is, it is inside the housing that used to contain the rotating beacon. So it would seem to be the (inferior) replacement

Silly me for presuming Durst Org was on one of their “once every 4 years kinda care about One WTC external maintenance” trips.:weary: They certainly love 4TS and One Bryant Park’s spires more.

Edit: I’m also realizing that strip of missing LED lights for one of the mechanical levels is still out.

Yup that mech floor is infuriating — funny how they could do a massive replacement of every internal light (and apparently the spire!) and STILL not fix that mech floor
