NEW YORK | One World Trade Center | 1,776 FT | 104 FLOORS

I still remember the day they started filling them in. Life changing

Still in the startup phase, Skyline has received a boost from Durst Ventures, the proptech and venture capital arm of the Durst Organization.

Durst and Skyline declined to disclose the size of the investment, but Skyline CEO Michael Brown said it comes with the intention of deploying Skyline’s technology across Durst’s New York properties. Skyline is mapping out the firm’s facades, including at the 1,776-foot One World Trade Center.

They have finally replaced the windows on the northeast facade that got broken by a falling bucket in summer 2020

It’s kinda crazy how this one makes all of the ones around it look so small. Can’t wait for 2 WTC to be completed.

Why did they not choose this design? New York needs a megatall!

Because overall, that design was made by Daniel Libeskind to plan out future buildings in the masterplan. That tower’s height was 2,001 feet, and was changed to 1,776 (actually 1,792) feet since that year is symbolic for the country

True. But 2,001 ft would have been symbolic as well. They could have had roof height at 1,776 ft

That height was going to happen, but the planners thought it would be a reminder of the horrific attacks. So it was shortened

I mean, I guess it is, but under that logic so are the memorial pools at the bottom. People are going to remember regardless

As far as I know, 2001’ was never an official number, the highest numbers mentioned for that proposal were only 2000’ - 2100’, there was never an actual design based on 2001’.

1776’ was always the original planned height since Libeskind was chosen to design the master plan, the tower rose in height from an initial iteration by David Childs, the design featured above was a collaboration with Childs and Libeskind to more liken it to the latter’s original design with a spire, but overall the design is mostly Childs’. Child then redesigned the whole building.

Not really sure what 1776 has to do with 9/11. It’s just an arbitrary limit on the building, and I fear that people may interpret the symbolism as a de facto height limit on all future New York development.

As far as I know, there’s no official height limit in NYC but the FAA. In fact, the “no building can’t go higher than One WTC” rule isn’t even official.

They made it 1,776 to celebrate the freedom of this country as well. Yea, 1776 has nothing to do with the WTC, but One WTC is a symbol just like that year to the US. Apparently One WTC is also reminiscent of the Washington monument from a 45° angle, as the 2,001 foot Freedom Tower was inspired by the Statue of Liberty

Thats the point I’m trying to make though, the design was never changed to 1776’, the initial masterplan proposal by Libeskind was always 1776’, there was never a proposal at 2001’ in particular. The new Libeskind iteration after the first was 2100’, the 3rd iteration where Childs was brought onboard by Silverstein was 2000’ and was the precursor to the 4th iteration Statue of Liberty design in which libeskind collaborated with Childs, but it was still mostly Childs’ design but for the spire that came from Libeskind.

The 5th and final iteration, Childs’ redesigned on his own to be back at 1776’.

I guess my knowledge on the World Trade Center has been stumbling for the past few years since I’ve been way more focused on Philadelphia, but NY will always stay in my heart as much. Thank you for the correction
