Put together this teaser video for a project I’m working on that highlights ESB, 1V, Hudson Yards, and Billionaire’s Row Footage is from my recent trips to NY in April and June!
Photos from yesterday. This base is really striking with that copper color. And the pedestrian plaza looks great too. On to next!
The warmth of the terra-cotta color on the underside of the cantilevers makes such a difference. Imagine how much less inviting that plaza would feel if the overhangs were clad in cold steel or glass.
Exactly. All the warm colors of the materials come together very nicely. Also, the terra cotta panels continue to the inside of the lobby. Wish I came back at night, it’s probably highlighted further!
If the observation windows were the same tint/transparency as the rest of the glass, this would look sooo much better!
I agree, the top just looks disjointed from the rest of the building. Still one of my favorites though.
From the track marks, bump-outs, and visual incongruity of its observation floors, One Vanderbilt’s crown lacks the elegance of its iconic midtown neighbors.
If “entertainment features” are an economic necessity for tall buildings these days, I would like to see architects strive to integrate them into their designs in a seamless and visually appealing way. Here they appear simply tacked on, a visually disruptive afterthought.
