NEW YORK | LaGuardia Airport Renovation

Insanity. People should be more upset that so much of their tax money is clearly going to grift.

Ey, that looks like Central Hall West. Seems the last portion of Terminal B is finally open–pity it doesn’t connect with Terminal C as planned. Judging how it doesn’t seem that was mentioned with this opening I imagine that’s now off the table.

LGA continues to be highly ranked among travellers.

That survey seems suspicious. This airport has terrible public-transit access. Was that even taken into account?

Right, there’s still no train, and thanks to a coalition of NIMBYs and timid politicians, there will be no train imminent, even though a plan had been approved and funded. The LGA Airtrain would have likely been open by now…

I’ve been in LaGuardia several times since it was redone. It’s certainly more welcoming, attractive, and easier to use. But the walks to many gates are really long. We logged over a mile for one flight. Maybe there is no way to deal with this issue because of the needs for large gate spans to handle large planes or the available land. But it is a challenge to navigate, especially for those who walk slowly.

Old Terminal D is getting demolished.

Re-using the old Terminal C concourse was a terrible mistake. Its exterior looks extremely dated and doesn’t even match the rest of the redevelopment. The interior renovation’s nice, though.

Looks like that new CapitalOne lounge at Terminal B is getting a proper buildout at the expense of what was supposed to be a public outdoor deck.

The loss of a public outdoor deck is quite a shame.

Does anyone know if the connector from Terminal B’s Central Hall to Terminal C is still in the plan? Timeline?

It’s been shelved sadly. Buses will provide that transfer for the foreseeable future.

Wow, that’s unbelievable to me since I see it is as critical element of the design from both a form and function perspective! Along with not putting 21st century rail/light rail linkage into the City (see London, Seattle, even LA now), I would ding LGA on those shortcomings on all those “best airports” rankings. Don’t get me wrong, I love everything that was realized in this project, except for not getting rid of the refurbed C gates! That said, how can an airport truly be considered among the best of the best if you’re only option to the next terminal over is a bus, and there is no direct rail linkage to the city itself? I hope these things end up being realized during my lifetime but not holding my breath!
