great updates
Fantastic updates and the speed of the GTC’s assembly is quite noteworthy since EWR’s CONRAC, which was of similar size felt like it took forever to build. Then again, things at EWR move slow.
They are wasting no time with T6 and I wouldn’t be surprised if they get it ready for their expected summertime opening. Also, that AI mockup is really nice. It really is a shame they didn’t make a park-like area like T1.
I think all of NYC will celebrate when the Van Wyck is complete ![]()
T6 is welcoming yet another airline. TAP Air Portugal announced they will be moving to T6.
I also found this photo on LinkedIn: Lots of interior fitting out going on with restaurant signage going up along with furnishings.
Looks like Terminal 6 will be a big Lufthansa group & Star Alliance terminal. Terminal 1 will have a few such as Turkish Airways, LOT and Ethiopian.
T6 will have a lot of airlines for such a small amount of gates.
If this is the completion of T8’s transformatio then i would argue that T8 is still mediocre by global standards. LGA & EWR Terminal A are better than the newly renovated T8. The baggage collection area, and the overall arrivals area is still very tired and outdated.
That entire terminal is outdated. The “expansion” did little and utilized the same look and feel as the rest of the place. It needs a complete overhaul, top to bottom, to compete with EWR’s A, LGA, and the new T1 and T6 at JFK.
Agree. Looks like a lost opportunity now.
Even the newly renovated Terminal 4 is very underwhelming.
Is T8 under the control of the Port Authority or does American Airlines have ownership? It seems like they’re not willing to spend money on a true overhaul of the terminal and are just content with adding more restaurants to sell overpriced mediocre food. What annoys me most about that terminal is the low ceilings and it feels very dark and not well lit in many areas. It just gives an old and outdated feeling. T4 has low ceilings on its extremely long concourses as well.
T8 is basically predominantly managed by American, with some airlines in OneWorld, such as British Airways, using it. T4 is the replacement for the original IAB, and Delta currently has a major stake in it, although several international carriers do use it.
T4’s concourses are extremely long as they’ve been continuously extended over the years.
At least some of the T4 renovations spruced areas up a bit.
Yup, a little. Still very mediocre and not worth the $1.5 Billion price tag.
Some updates from the T6 team! The terminal’s baggage handling system and security checkpoint have both received TSA certification, the apron is nearing completion, and contract bidding for phase 2 is on the horizon. No word on an opening date yet, only references to a “2026 opening,” without any mention of spring or June…
Anyway! They included some nice pics from around the building.
I can easily see this opening by late summer. One of the pictures features a substantially complete shopping area and overall, a lot of interior finishes are in place.
They really should of chosen a better flooring than the carpet in the TSA area though. That is going to look dated fast. The rest of the terminal looks really nice, though.
You also forgot a photo from T6:
No official T1 updates, although a contractor, VETS Industries, shared a bunch of photos showing the construction of a Hermes store. T1 has plenty of work to go before they’re ready.
Had some fun imagining what a future Terminal 6 phase 3 might look like. Upped capacity to 14 widebody gates from 9.5, and was inspired by the unbuilt TWA Flight Center expansion for the arc-shaped concourse!
That looks nice, and I like the arc-shaped concourse idea. I also assume some reconfiguration by the T5 side would be needed to fit more widebodies because the gate area by the connection is going to be tight.
Agree regarding the carpet. Having said that i think they could have picked a better design for the carpet. These look so dull.
Here are some example from Asian airports.
