Yes, but LGA terminal B looks and feels way better.
Was clicking through some links and stumbled upon some detailed info about the previous new T1 plan, which included facade and canopy details and a Revit screenshot gif. JFK T1 Phase I | Agencie

I was randomly wondering today about EWR Terminal B. No news. Seems like the project is stuck.
In October they selected PGAL as the architect (original designers of the T1 concept I just posted, actually).
I’m sure lots of work is taking place behind the scenes to develop the concept. These things take time.
I seems to have missed it. There is nothing on PGAL’s website as well. Could not find any link to the new also.
I found some photos on LinkedIn of T6. Looks like they’re starting to install jet bridges as the anchorages are now in place and a few parts are on site.
One can only wish to see glass jet bridges at NYC airports someday.
this has probably been asked 3834034 times but why dont they just make it glass what is the difference
The PA isn’t going to pay extra for it. They’re some of the biggest penny pinchers in the region.
I also wouldn’t be surprised if they cite some outdated regulation as justification for not getting them since glass bridges have been allowed for a while now.
Yeah it was only recently that they actually got legalized for use in the U.S. I believe it was a fire regulation blocking it before. Other airports like MIA and MCI have been more willing to embrace them, seemingly.
It was a fire regulation. A few other airports have embraced them as well. Our only hope is EWR’s Terminal B or the renovated LGA Terminal A as being possible candidates for glass bridges but I doubt it. The PA won’t spend extra money for them.
to be more accurate, the developer (RXR) isnt going to pay for it unless its specified, which it isnt.
Despite their reputation for VE, the PA has a healthy balance sheet and is self funded. (their bonds are AAA or AA+)
The MTA is doing all kinds of glass elevators in their wide spread station upgrades, but they dont have a pot to piss in.
JFK T1 published some photos showing progress.
In addition, Ethiopian Airlines announced it will also be moving to T1 later this year.
Yep, should come online around October when airlines shift to winter schedules. Still a fair bit to do on the interior, from what I understand.
Best place for pics seems to be LinkedIn. The terminal operators and consultants just love showing off their work!
This. If you know how to search, the contractors who do the fitting out of things such as electric or flooring also are eager to share their work. Those groups give good insights into some lesser-seen areas of the terminal as well.
Terminal 6 is really coming along. Found these photos on LinkedIn and airline signs are going up in the check-in area.
Beautiful!! Seeing finished flooring uncovered like that seems to be a great sign. I plan to pop down there this weekend to do an exterior update.
Here’s the latest from around the airport! Trying out the carousel feature to keep things neater.
VAN WYCK EXPW
Not sure when work is expected to finish here, but a lot of the retaining walls seem to have their finishes up, and vehicles are driving on some of the newly-expanded roadway. Traffic was flowing smoothly.
TERMINAL ONE/GTC
Significant progress was observed on the frontage finishes (canopy, door portals), as well as the landscaping around the arrivals hall. Most work seems to have moved toward the interior, which I was sadly unable to capture.
The GTC Garage’s structure appears to be nearing completion, and it has quite a presence at the airport. Looking forward to seeing the view from up there. On the ground, curbsides for the various bus/taxi/rideshare locations appear to be under construction. The whole thing should be done in about a year’s time.
TERMINAL 4
The most noteworthy construction underway at T4 is the new private vehicle arrivals curb egress and permanent blue garage access/egress. This was expected to be complete this month, but I imagine all that snow we got has set things back. I can see work here wrapping up by the end of next month. I’ve had my eye on this project lately as it’ll enable easier, higher-quality pedestrian access from T4 to the blue garage. Also, once this work is complete, they can finally demolish the hideous surface lot, which will likely become a new T4 arrivals plaza.
TERMINAL 6
This site has remained interesting, with lots of infrastructure work underway. The widening of the T5/6 access road is almost ready to open, and the new offshoot that provides the permanent access to the yellow garage has seen some progress. In the case of the latter, a portion of the road has already been poured for use as a temporary taxi egress road, allowing the arrivals plaza to proceed uninhibited. Speaking of, canopy installation was underway down there, and I anticipate we’ll see the majority of roadwork taking place here in the coming months. Above the plaza, the bridge linking the T5/T7 garages has opened, meaning one now drives in through the T5 garage and exits through the T7 garage.
The ramp leading up to the T6 departures curb appears to be nearing completion, and I expect asphalt will be poured on it imminently. To its north, the foundations for the reinstalled TWA Hotel access path and canopy have gone in. Over at T5, the newly extended departures canopy looks to be nearing completion, with vehicle traffic still temporarily routed underneath it and over the roof of the international baggage hall. The old off-ramp still hasn’t been demolished to make way for the last section of the permanent egress road, and I reckon they’re waiting for T6 to open so the baggage hall below will go unused before proceeding over it. The taxi stand had a little bit of paving and canopy foundation action, and the supports for the massive screen element above it have appeared!
I caught some glimpses inside and noticed the departures hall is still filled with delivery equipment as fit-out proceeds. I also noticed some self-check-in machines by the windows–a nice reminder that opening day is near. The future hardscape between the T6 and T5 arrivals plazas is still a muddy mess, and I can’t help but feel it would look so much better with a nicely-landscaped park like what T1 is doing. I used AI to mock-up what one could look like, and I enjoyed the result.
That’s all for now! Here are some additional shots from my planespotting and TWA Hotel lounging moments. Looking forward to my next visit when the weather warms up!
