NEW YORK | JFK Airport Renovation/Upgrades

I heard that T6 might open sooner (some spurces say early 2026) which is great considering the FIFA World Cup is next summer.

Yup, the ceo said that T6 will open in Q1, 2026.

JFK Airport finally did the right thing and reduced the AirTrain fare by 50% from $8.50 to $4.25 to dissuade driving into the airport due to congestion and construction of T1 and T6. The new price is far more reasonable than the $8.50 for a glorified people mover.

spending 8.50 just to stand in a crowded people mover :heart_eyes::heart_eyes:

T6 is now fully enclosed/weathertight and set to open in early 2026, again confirmed by JMP on their LinkedIn. In addition, they’ve unveiled their roadway artwork, titled “JFK Global Panorama” which will be dynamic and change based on the destinations flown to from the terminal–similar to the artwork in LGA Terminal C’s TSA hall. They’ve released some renderings and construction pics below. They also report they expect to announce additional airline tenants shortly.

4.50 is still a joke, make it 2.90 like the subway.

The PANYNJ could never. They should just implement a small-scale congestion pricing program and toll drivers entering the airport and make the AirTrain free.

Hey, with the success of Manhattan’s congestion pricing program, I wouldn’t fully discount the possibility of this👀

The PANYNJ published a nice photo dump and update on flickr regarding the JFK T1 and T6.

The Points Guy was given a tour of Terminal 6. I didn’t realize until today that Vantage Airport Group, the leader in the LGP consortium that developed LGA Terminal B, is also the leader of the JMP consortium that’s developing T6! The article also confirms that T5 and T6 will share a customs hall, indicating to me that T5’s customs hall will close. Wonder what will come of that space?

By what measure? Observable progress has quickened in recent weeks, and I imagine behind the scenes work is progressing similarly. March/April is a stretch, but I can absolutely see June being feasible.

Found these interior pics of T1 on LinkedIn focusing on the cladding for the interior columns.

In addition, there will be a new centralized hub for deliveries at T1 which will help mitigate extra airfield traffic.
A rendering of the facility was also included.

I thought the columns in T1 were a bit curved.

I just found another shot from T1’s departures hall, taken earlier than the pictures you found @ALC11. With the blue columns, it looks a bit like a Richard Rogers building :joy:

I bet that the photo was taken before they were painted because they’re now white
