For sure. I could be mistaken, but on the other side of the grey wall might be another lounge with direct boarding access!
Someone posted this image on the google maps entry for JFK airport:
Looks like several jetbridges and other portions of the façade are fully installed.
As a part of the renovations at JFK passengers using rideshare services are going to be relocated to the AirTrain stop at Howard Beach to prevent traffic congestion as the summer travel season starts and the T1 and T6 projects continue to advance.
Looks great. They are wasting no time starting to do interior work and depending on when in 2026 they open, the terminals might be ready for passengers coming in to see the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the summer. This is wishful thinking, of course.
Also, per the T1 LinkedIn page, Air China and Royal Air Maroc have announced they will be serving JFK’s new T1.
At T6, Avianca has announced they will be the 14th airline to serve the terminal and is the first Latin American airline to utilize the terminal.
Press Releases:
I hadn’t considered that they might be trying to open before the World Cup, but I think you might be right. T1 is scheduled to open June 2026, and T6 has stated that it’s less than a year from opening, so they should be ready in time for the cup.
Enhanced rail access is a must.
For sure. I’m hoping to use the Van Wyck realignment as an opportunity to add additional tracks for public transport, as well as a central rail station for LIRR trains where JFK Central would’ve gone.
I think for sure JFK needs expanded runway capacity, but the monetary requirements coupled with the public backlash from expanding into Jamaica Bay…well.
Found a pic of inside T1:
New dining options were announced at JFK T5 and in addition, there will be a video gaming lounge among other concessions which will enhance the passenger experience at T5. Avolta will also upgrade existing facilities to better serve customers.
Here’s a T6 photo dump that focuses on the construction of it’s all-concrete apron from the LinkedIn page and an aerial photo of the entire airport (although it seems like the aerial image is from over the winter):
Great stuff! In addition, last Friday saw the activation of the permanent T4 departures roadway, which looks like it contains a spur that could lead to a second curbside in the future.
That definitely looks like provisions for a future expansion. Looks like the PA is thinking ahead for long-term development. I also see work has started on what looks like the new parking garage as well.
This does an excellent job showing us how big T1 is compared to Old T1. It’s huge. The old terminal can fit in the headhouse of the New T1 and still have room to spare.
Why they don’t demolish Concourse B of Terminal 4?
That is extremely unlikely. T4 is more recent and has been going through renovations. It is also a major Delta hub and has a number of international flights. Deleting an entire concourse and having nothing to replace it is not a good idea.
Can they do that after completing terminal 1 and 6?
I mean there’s nothing stopping them from doing it but there’s no real benefit demolishing what is essentially half of Terminal 4. The B concourse is also the largest one in that terminal so you’re effectively neutering T4 entirely. T1 and T6 won’t have any additional capacity to compensate so unless T4 were to be replaced, the benefits are negligible to none.
I’m curious, why would they even consider demolishing Concourse B, did you read this somewhere?
