The garden is the best part of this complex - I really appreciate the amount of open public space. It has an old world feel that fits right in the area.
I agree that the texture looks much better in close ups, it gets lost as you get far away, and becomes dull and dreary.
I wanted this building to succed, but it comes short of that.
It has a lot of great design details, but its potential was greater than that.
When looking at this building from curbside or nearby, all the subtle design features come into full view. The color, texture and varied forms are a feast for the eye; this is exceptional architecture in every way - form & function.
I say function mainly due the elegant affect of those arched windows on the interior design, and the clever addition of the enclosed court yard - among other features too many to mention.
Thanks for that Dezeen article - the true âexpertsâ have spoken well of this building in that article.
It might be a while before we see any new projects by AdjayeâŚ
Good article about the building. The comments in the article regarding the facade details reminded me that a well designed building is both FORM & FUNCTION.
The âformâ of 130 William is great, but it also seems to be quite well done regarding the âfunctionâ.
Good architecture is more than skin deep; there is also the all important âfunctionalâ aspect that often goes unappreciated.
Excerpt: The façadeâs sawtooth fenestration extends the height of the building and was strategically developed to mitigate aggressive wind and calibrate solar angles, while the windows are designed to modulate solar exposure, maximize natural daylight, and enable a self-shading system.
These are the best pictures I have ever seen of 130 William Street. Absolutely iconic. I am saving them in my own archive. Thank you!!!
No problem!
Yes, I saw it the other day, and it was quite lively; the coffee and flower shop really brought it to life.
