Thats the beauty of it. So much going on. Outside of HY, in the blocks north of it, and even South, numerous blocks are transforming.

do we have a map with different colored circles for each tower under construction (colors would be for height of tower, like 300-500 feet, 501-750, 751-984, 984+, would be good ranges IMO), and then maybe you could put proposals on the map as a triangle or something. Label each as a number and have a reference to the number with the towers name. If this does not exist someone should make it : ).

I would but I don’t know the city well enough to be able to plot them, and have not been paying attention long enough to know all of the projects.

Not in YIMBY yet. I remember Nikolai mentioning the possibility of a map feature. Possibly its still an option?

But it would be cool to have something like a GIS database. IDK if discourse which is the platform that this site is running on supports it or not. I’m sure some sort of map could be made. Not 100% sure though.

I mean, if we could get a platform like that on the main page header, that would be sweet. It would be like a modern version of ssp’s map database. Although I keep telling them there that its woefully outdated. Even volunteered to help, but no response from ssp’s creator.

ya they could even anchor articles to it. Have the articles on the left pane like they are and have the map on the right as you scroll through the articles it would map orient on the right. This would also be a good method to build-out the map database because you would be putting in coordinate the 1st time you create a file on a new development.

All I know is it is nearly impossible for me to track everything going on. Even Skyscraper center’s database is missing some of the stuff I see put on here. After a few years of doing it this way it could turn into a premier NYC architectural directory. Most of the data and historical information on recent and current project is already here in the form of threads and past articles, but it is hard to find something unless you are looking for it. A lot 400-600 foot developments are going unnoticed because of this.

I totally agree Tokila, It’s hard sometimes to put all of the developments in perspective. There is the map feature on skyscraperpage which I use from time to time and can be helpful but unfortunately as you can imagine it does not have all the projects we see on Yimby.

I did find this: http://devmap.io/cities

Its small though. But a couple of cities like Miami and Washington DC along with a few others have some developments listed.

Something like this would be neat to add here.

Here is a screenshot from skyscraperpage, just to get a vague idea of devellopements. Green is everything under construction and blue is proposed. It is far from being complete but you can get a reasonable idea. You know what I am going to do, I will create a my maps map with all developments I can find here on Yimby and i will colour code it like Tokila suggested. I think it could be useful, and not being in New York to take pictures I would like to help and contribute in any way possible. It should take me a few days to get something decent, I will then create a thread put the link and you should be able to see it. Tell me what you think of the idea!

Yeah that sounds like a cool idea. We can even sticky it or make it so it appears permanent on the top. I mean, its up to you. Its a lot of work, and if you think its a good addition and worth the time, I think we all here back you up.

Something I plan to do when I have the time and an addy is transfer all of the mid rise projects from my ssp compilation into a big thread here. And I can do it in 2 hours, but I need a little help haha from a little yellow friend. Theres 1200+ projects to transfer.

Thats 10 per minute. Okay, maybe 3 hours. 2 is stretching it. I’d need to be like the Wolf of Wallstreet to work at that level.

Just remember to save it as a draft or even post it and add on to it. I’ve learned in the past that being cautious is worth it, because if you close the browser or something happens, everything becomes FUBAR. Usually when I do those big compilations, I use html scripts, and just write it up on notepad and save it every 10 minutes or so. Nothings worse that working on something and losing an hours worth of work.

can’t wait to see it. this will definitely help new members be able to quickly catch up and track what is going on in NYC.

220 CPS is missing and many HY towers slated are not there as well such as The Spiral, 360 Tenth and the many 500-800’ towers that will be rising along the Hudson Boulevard up to 42nd Street. Wow. I can’t wait for that day.

this whole thing is incredible. I have seen large scale development like this in other countries (like near Seoul and in Guangzhou) but not of this quality. Most of the mega developments I saw in those places were medium to low quality cookie cutter residential. Like 10+ 50 floor residential buildings all go up in same area with same design.

I would argue the Hudson Yards+Manhattan West+3 Hudson BLVD+Spiral+ the other couple of tower incoming together are the greatest development in history. We are talking 20 million SQFT+ commercial office space, thousands and thousands of residences, parks, tons of retail. All done to the highest quality. You may or may not like the artistic choices they made in the tower designs, but I think we can all agree this will be quality construction.

I never thought I would see in the US what I saw in Asia as far as mass scale developments. Not only is one happening right now, but it blows those in the east out of the water.
