Not to be picky but I hope the final designs of the towers is something more New Yorkish. Hudson Yards already has a bad rep of being architecturally and socially disconnected from the rest of the island.
A higher res image of the skyline render and the other renders
The more and more I look at the resort tower, the less and less I like it. It has a very abnormal form. But regardless, the Wynn motifs of their “iconic” towers is clearly present with the stripes and what not and the curve (even if its not the best) the bronze/brownish shaded glass will be interesting if this is in fact the final design, it’s clear that it wont be as dark as their typical swooping towers.
I can’t even imagine how many SLF’s will be swarming and attacking people in this area.
Not to mention two Lyra towers (555 38th street)
For me, the flat horizontal lines of the resort tower jar with the strong verticality of the sharp corners and that inset on the side.
Much better would be if those horizontal lines were angled 45 degrees. They could EITHER be angled the same way on the north and south sides so that it spirals up the building (mirroring the pattern on The Spiral next door) OR even better they can be angled in opposite fashion to match the opposite angles of the roofline/parapet.
Right now the tower just looks basic af, there’s no flair (though I admit not offensive as I’d imagined a Wynn to be).
WOW! The designs are definitely striking!! All unique in their own ways, yet something I really hope gets built (more or less) like the renders! Like TKDV said, my only hope would’ve been to have had the Wynn design flow more with its base!
If these really get built as-is, it’ll be nice to see the Hudson Yards finally wrapped up! Knowing how casinos would be, I’m almost certain the Wynn’s “stripes” are going to be lit up!
Can you believe it? We got Hudson Yards phase two before GTA VI. Outstanding
We just need to see renderings of the southernmost tower and we will finally see all of phase 2. I hope it is a stepped tower design. It features slight curves and a split down the middle like the Wynn Resorts tower
The residential tower looks like Heatherwick.
Massive! Like a completely new city!! ^
Per NYguy SSP:
https://www.playny.com/proposed-wynn-new-york-city-casino-provide-generational-benefits-to-state/
Related and Wynn called the proposed casino project “a catalyst for the development of the entire western half of Hudson Yards.”
The rumored $12 billion proposal – built on a platform above the railyard between West 30th and West 33rd streets and 11th and 12th avenues – will create a number of jobs, including 35,000 for construction and 5,000 permanent spots in the resort. In addition, the project will feature publicly accessible open space, affordable housing and a school.
Wynn and Related promise that even more details will emerge once they submit an official application to the Gaming Facility Location Board, a date for which has yet to be set. Those details include “a substantial community benefits program, security program and traffic mitigation plan.”
…Of course, the area will also boast a “world-class gaming resort” complete with luxurious hotel rooms and suites as well as restaurants, bars and lounges. Plus, Wynn New York City will feature a space and a concierge team committed to showing guests everything New York has to offer.
In addition, the project will include a residential building with affordable housing, a Class AA commercial office space, a public school with 750 seats, a community facility and a day care center.
All told, according to the release, the Wynn New York City project represents “the single largest investment ever to be made in the local communities of Chelsea, Hudson Yards, Hell’s Kitchen and the entire West Side,” all designed “to enhance the neighborhood and maximize benefit to residents and the surrounding community.”
“Moving forward with the second phase of development presents an incredible opportunity to double the impact and provide generational benefits to the State, City, and especially our West Side neighbors. We look forward to completing our vision for Hudson Yards in partnership with Wynn Resorts and revealing full project plans as part of our application to New York State.”
The residential tower looks good and fits in with 15 and 35 HY. The Wynn tower is… fine. It’s boring but that’s probably a blessing considering how ghastly some of their other towers look.
But the cluster as a whole is such a mess I can scarcely handle it. There’s no center, no visual hierarchy, no cohesive architectural identity.
Moving the Wynn tower to the East end of the building would at least help give the cluster more of a center of gravity. But of course, that would mean patrons could go straight to their rooms from the subway or the plaza, rather than having to walk through the casino — and we couldn’t have that…
The east end would be over the platform so I’m sure they will want to keep the building’s mass closer to terra firma
The railyard extends all the way to the Highline so I dont think thats necessarily why the tower is where it is because there isnt “ground” at street level regardless of if it was on the east or west side. Eitherway anything built will have to straddle the tracks like 30 and 35 Hudson Yards had to. The commercial tower and the residential towers wont have that “same” problem more so they will have to straddle the gateway tunnel and the highline.
Yes I’m aware however what is the clearance between the tracks on the north end of the yard compared to closer towards the middle? This is probably the path of least resistance here. I personally would like the resort tower oriented diagonally but it is what it is.
Do you mean what the clearance is from west to east? Its the same going north to south.
No. I’m referring to the space between each track where piles will be driven to support the platform and the buildings above. I was actually misremembering on which side of the yard had space but it was the eastern side of the yard that has terra firma.
Yeah, the tracks in the east yard narrow quite a bit which is why they were able to build terra firma foundations for one or more of those towers (10 HY? I can’t recall.) The west yard is wall-to-wall tracks.
I was expecting something much worse.
Find the comments bit delusional.
IMHO the buildings look wonderful. Much better than the Sydney one which looks like.
That Hudson Yards area is Manhattan Crown Jewel just with the WTC area but no one gives it enough credit.
Wished most parts of Midtown East looked as glamorous and modern as this.
You find my comments delusional? Everyone’s entitled to their own opinions, just like I think Crown Sydney is still better than this, and others have already agreed that the resort tower wouldve looked better if it wasnt just plopped ontop of the podium.
Don’t take it personally, I just think what I’ve seen in the renders is majestic.
I respect all opinions.
Labeling other people’s opinions ‘delusional’ doesn’t scream respect. But maybe that’s just me.
