I too am wondering what the setup will actually look like as I doubt the program massings are really anywhere accurate to what the actual massings look like compared to whatever they look like in their current state of design. Wynn has a very “signature” design that they use for all of their designs, so I’m not sure how that will work out in tower form if they do decide to go the route of using their signature design for Site C.
And Encore Boston Harbor which would have had a similar design to the Encore tower in Macau but the design was changed to be the more signature tower design.
There’s really no way to tell how the design of the resort tower (or any of the buildings for that matter) until we know what the zoning will be for each tower because all the design still have to conform to the current zoning or the rezoning that Related/Wynn are looking into for Phase II. Regardless, if Wynn tries to retain their signature design and overall design of their casino podiums we can expect the overall building to still look out of place with its surroundings. Also until or if a render is ever released, which at this point I’m very surprised one has not been released yet.
An article mentioned that the tower’s design would retain the iconic design and swooping crown feature, but there was no source cited for any part of the article so it may have just been an assumption.
I would personally still like for the design of both the podium and the tower to blend seamlessly with its surroundings while still being an iconic tower like they are wanting, much like I previously mentioned how Crown Sydney is long ago. I wouldn’t know Crown Sydney was a resort/casino but for the logo on the top of the tower, though on a much smaller scale I think it would be best if the tower was somehow integrated with the podium as with Crown Sydney instead of it just being stuck on top of it.
I really hope it’s not the standard Wynn design, I find it quite tacky and suburban, I guess that could come down to the coloring. I would be pleased with something along the lines of the Crown Sydney, albeit on a much grander scale.
Completely disagree. A “buyer beware” mentality only works for smart people. There are lots of poor uneducated people who are preyed on by conmen and sometimes people need to be saved from themselves. Gambling is a terrible addiction to many and ruins so many lives. I think people have the right to voice their concern for the health and well being of their community.
No one is forcing anyone to gamble, if they want to spend the little money they may have in a casino that is their prerogative the same way people choose to smoke and/or drink. There is something to be said for personal accountability here. This whole notion that “I am smarter and I know what’s best for you” is insulting and outdated.
This is actually my favorite Hotel Casino design: appropriately tacky, kitsch, showy, grandiose, attention getting. This is honestly what I believe is the best - most fitting - architectural design concept given the entertainment & financial objectives of a Hotel/Casino.
If we must have them (and unfortunately we do) they must fit the ‘user profile’ for maximum profitability. This “Guitar Hotel” design does so brilliantly.
For those unfamiliar, the Hard Rock is an extreme form of “roadside vernacular” architecture. Roadside vernacular is synonymous with Americana and the open road, its buildings designed to showcase either the name or the product of the business so you can’t miss it when driving cross country at highway speeds. (For example: a giant owl for The Owl Cafe, a giant barrel for a root beer joint, a giant hot dog for a hot dog stand, or a giant guitar for the rock n’ roll themed Hard Rock Hotel).
Of course something like this would be entirely inappropriate for what’s intended to be a luxury district on the Manhattan waterfront, but it would be among the funniest possible outcomes.
Well that’s certainly something, I cant say I care that much for the resort tower, I do like the podium though. I also like the design (whether its a placeholder or not) of the residential tower, that’s going to be a giant residential tower.
The resort tower wouldve faired much better if it was integrated into the podium and not just stuck ontop of it.
The curvy building with the arches is great. The other one is quite bleghhh. Wynn’s designs are typically the antithesis of classy as displayed here, which is another reason why I want time square to win
The first shot is great. I appreciate the view corridor of the Vessel being preserved from the water. I also like the curvy building with the arches and how it interacts with the High Line below it.
I like this proposal. Let’s hope these look good at night as well. 15 and 35 Hudson yards are prime examples of looking good during the day but look rather sucky at night with a lack of nighttime lighting.
