NEW YORK | "High Line District" (Special West Chelsea District)

The use of wood was an excellent choice in a sea of glass, brick and concrete.

They’ve since removed the small bracing that was on the underside of the upper cord of the bridge, I still can’t wait until all the fencing/ barriers are gone.

I’m fairly surprised at the amount of greenery that was put onto the HL extension, but for the Corten, that aspect makes it match perfectly with the rest of the HL. The island curb underneath the extension is also fairly expansive/wide, so I wonder if anything will be done with that portion be it a bus stop or something, it’s not small by any means and that’s with all the construction related stuff hiding a lot of it.

And then there’s the new blinding highlighter pink/red tree on the Spur, I’d never seen so many people take interest in the artwork that is normally displayed here every so often. And then there was just me taking pictures not of the tree and of the construction instead.

They poured the massive concrete median recently, still can’t wait for all the fencing and construction related equipment to be removed, with this and MW finishing at the same time, this area will feel so much better to walk around!

Should open within days.

This is great! For a while I thought NY should make more HighLine structures around the city. But lately I’ve been more on the “get rid of cars” side of things.

They’ve gotten rid of a lot of the barricades and fences, even just removing the opaque fences has helped open up the area so much.

I’m also not sure if there is a thread for it, I don’t think there is, but the green roof on the Morgan building looks amazing! And the new corner lobby really helps to light up the area at night.

There’s was a soft opening for the Highline extension (Hudson yards/Manhattan west connector) today it seemed with a whole wine and cheese situation on the structure.

I asked a security guard when it would open to the public and he said, next week Wednesday, the 21st!

Not as exciting as the actual bridge opening, but this area has probably never looked more organized lmao. a portion of the sidewalk underneath the extension has been opened, the columns are flanked by giant Corten colored (though they may in fact be Corten) steel planters. Now hurry up and build that hotel to the right and be done with it…

What bothers me about that new bridge is those metal bridge support beams are already rusting. They had probably been left out on the job site in the rain for months. One simple coat of rustoleum paint, and an oil based top coat and they will look like new…

Weathering steel is supposed to rust, that rust forms a protective patina coating on it that allows it to remain exposed to the elements. Any rust is not compromising the steel. Rust that forms on weathering steel is not the same as rust that forms on regular steel, not to mention that based on the elements used, steel is naturally a rusty color.

Ha… I knew some folks would miss that “wink” emoji… it was a joke.

However, I have actually heard some people making similar remarks about core ten rust patina…

Oh I had noticed the emoji, but that seemed like it was more tied to your last remark (which is clearly a joke) and not the entire comment.
