NEW YORK | 540 West 21st Street | 250 FT | 20 FLOORS

First updates for this, just had to see it since it’s just ALL the rave nowadays. Turns out it was just like any other construction… Would rate my experience 1/5.

OK. If your point is “water resistent, as opposed to waterproof” - that is correct.

Maybe the AI info was wrong: but I do believe that purlple seathing on the facade is waterproof. AS usual posting on the in less-than-pricise terms. - Thanks for the input..

AI is known to hallucinate…

BTW = This will NEVER happen. However, the notion os AI and robotics in construction seems a popular subject.

Enjoy.

Plus the angled windows will give additional view opportunities.

Again, it is not waterproof. Being water resistant is not the same as being waterproof. Sheathing is meant to prevent vapor from penetrating the building envelope for a short time, but it does not function in the same capacity as building wrap and/or a vapor/air barrier layer, which fully prevent vapor from penetrating the building envelope.

The product being used here is even called out as being moisture resistant, not moisture proof. Thats why it still has to be taped/vapor painted over on the seams and edges, because it IS susceptible to vapor damage over time.

Good points all around; much appreciated.

OH, and speaking of “water proof”…

On another interesting note; there is a mural across the street from this building that is quite cool.
The mural is sort of hiding across the road, and above the neighboring building: you can get a glimpse of the mural on my photo posted at the bottom.

There is a real intricate story happening that is open to interpretation. My take-away message of this mural is: when visiting the city, stay out of the rain, or at least bring an umbrella. :wolf:

BTW - I highly recommend to everyone; take a good look at this mural next time you visit this construction site - it is a work of art that is easy to miss while walking down that street.

That core is substantial. I guess it’s from the post 9/11 code revisions?

Big new scoop; for me anyway.

I walked by yesterday on the west side of the building and saw a banner sign for this new condo; and now we know a bit more about the project, and the Architect who is designed the building. The building is designed by Thomas Juul Hansen

I like this quote from the article I found when doing an on-line search -
A DESIGN PHILOSOPHY ROOTED IN SIMPLICITY AND ELEGANCE
end quote.

I do like understated form factor and of the building; and do agree there is a certain elegance in the simplicity of this design.

I read somewhere that the facade is going to be made of “hand-laid” brick. That may explain the ‘tented scaffold’ which is often used with the facades down with real brick.

I am glad this is not going to be the basic prefabricated panelized facade the is so often done on new condo construction.

There have been are a lot of new luxury condo buildings going up in west Chelsea in the last few years; but this one will be the “Juul in the Crown”… get it.

BTW - There are renderings of this building posted on the robbreport.dot.com.
