I’m elated that this heinous eyesore is finally coming down!
Demo permit was filed in August of 2022.
This project has a big footprint.
All of this crap is coming down on 14th St
All of this crap on 6th is coming down.
Some of that crap can use some TLC and get back to their golden days…
I had always hoped for that to happen, but sadly, no one would invest the money to do it. The new building will sell units quickly and for a lot of money.
I know - I’m hoping too, sometimes is just a matter of time, for some neighborhoods to find their moment - here is an example, Broadway and houston in the 70s - they looked very crappy - we were lucky this buildings were saved from the wrecking ball…Once they are gone, we can’t replace them
Absolutely agree with @Alemel , the buildings need a little TLC and that would make for a beautiful corner.
I agree. I strenuously opposed the demo of the Hotel Penn, and I’d hate to see the Roosevelt come down.
As far as this site goes, it has been dilapidated garbage for decades. Since no one was going to restore it, I’m elated to see it come down. I’m also confident that something very nice will rise here.
This is a tough one. Like people are saying, these would look pretty with some TLC, particularly restoring the cornices (which is a massive pet peeve of mine when they have clearly been chopped off - very common even in Flatiron)) but it likely won’t ever happen to a fresh new building is the next best thing.
Yeah reusing that cast iron facade would set it apart from the other new condos across the street!
I agree, but the new building should be very nice. Since this developer built something of this caliber on a mid-block site on 18th St., I think that they’ll build something amazing on this prominent corner.

I’m seeing 6 demolition applications on that corner: 100, 102, and 104 West 14th Street plus 519, 523, and 525 6th Ave. Don’t see anything yet for the corner lot at 527 6th Ave, but same owner.
This is the corner lot.

That’s a great app! Thanks for posting it.
