Exterior sheathing isn’t always purple.
Also there’s still going to be a vapor barrier applied to all exterior facing surfaces, cladding cant be put directly over exterior sheathing without fully sealing a building.

Officially topped out! - Development team held a ceremony at the project earlier this week
Ai overview![]()

Officially toped out; and the facade and window frames are moving along nicely.
I noticed the flashing is now being applied to the window frames: looks like some sort of caulking or waterproof sealant is being applied around the edges.
To my novice eye this all looks - air tight, and done right.

It’s tape.
It’s just going to be exposed concrete?
Cladding hasnt started going up yet.
I wonder if there is any connection with this job site and the drone activity?
There may be some great aerial photos/video of this project coming soon.
NOTICE OF DRONE ACTIVITY
Take-of site: 550 West 21st street…. ![]()
BTW. Still wondering why they clad half those window frames with plywood; only to remove the plywood and re-install with weatherproof gypsum board. I guss only the super. project manager, trade contractor knows for sure. ![]()
I didn’t know there was a permit process for drones.
yea u cant fly them in most places in the city
That’s what I thought but I see obvious drone shots on TV shows etc.
A big neener neener to the building next door -
There are now ‘tented’ scaffolds on the facade; that is something I have not seen before on this project: this may be a sign that the final facade material will be installed soon.
They may be using those scaffolds to install those purple gypsum panels; but could also be used for the final finish on the facade.
I hope to see hand-laid brick; or meticulously installed prefabricated stone panels.
The project is progressing nicely; appears to be fine quality construction work - now I want to see some ‘fine quality’ material on that facade.
Time will tell.… ![]()
