NEW YORK | 5 WTC (130 Liberty St) | 920 FT | FLOORS

Awesome news!!! :sunglasses:

I was thinking of this angle, which is the 5WTC page banner on the KPF website. Indeed, all the other angles obscure it, although the lobby in these renders seems at odds with the leaked floor plans:

Oh I thought you were just motioning the bridge being in question but yes the overall base/lobby design and even the tower itself has and will continue to evolve from the professional renders to the leaked renders to the latest information, etc, etc. Even those images that were leaked are now old.

I also want to note that the PACB adopted the motion to approve the project this morning which is why Gov Hochul announced that the project was approved this afternoon, so it doesn’t need to go through anymore approvals in that regard.

PANYNJ’s board still must approve the plan.

This closing line was written this afternoon, and the governor says in her speech at 13:26: https://youtu.be/qsmScZNj53o?t=806

Pending approval of [PANYNJ’s] board

But that seems to regard rent reduction? Perhaps Commercial Observer author Mark Hallum mistook her statement? They’re celebrating as though there are no more hurdles to surmount, so I hope that’s indeed the case.

Gov Hochul’s mention of the PA was definitely regarding the rent reduction that they must approve, but the project itself is what has been approved.

5 WTC site as of 8/1/23 - I expect it to be cleared of its contents in the near future given it’s now got state approval.

Some port authority office containers were moved some months ago. Apparently construction would begin just next year so there might be some time before more movements.

I believe actual construction will start Q3 or possibly Q4. The tower hasnt been worked on in a while.

I don’t think there will be much to follow until they close that temporary park on the footprint.

It’ll probably be much more than just closing the temporary park down, the current fence around the site is not representative of where the construction boundary would be set, it only represents the property line.

Something like that for Site K (418 11th Ave) would appeal to me, but let’s see which project is chosen from.

I don’t think they ever truly believed that 9/11 survivors and families would want to live there. It’s one of those “hey, give us credit for making the gesture!” virtue signals to combat critics that demand the 9/11 folks get something out of this project. Survivors certainly deserve medical care, but offering them up apartments like these feels like gifting them framed photographs of the Twin Towers topped with ribbons and bows.

The site planners have already set aside the memorial plaza and museum for contemplative mourning—the rest of the WTC complex was intended for spirited hustle and bustle. 5WTC is not meant for those who associate the World Trade Center more with trauma than joy.

If this is the site of the old Deutsche Bank building, what is under ground? The old foundation of the DB building, or is it already linked to everything underground under the WTC complex?

Well, they unearthed an 18th century shipwreck under there. I’d imagine that 130 Liberty’s foundations have long since been excavated and removed.

On a side note, why not move the WTC Command Center into the office space of 5WTC? I think it’s currently at 90 West across the street.

The WTC CC is under St Nicholas’ church on that side of the VSC.

@GertElim The concourse level/Westfield Mall doesnt cross south of Liberty St.

It’s a bit strange that the PAC and Tower 5 were always part of the master plan yet they decided not to incorporate a direct route for people to access either building from the PATH Station / Mall. I’m not sure if it wasn’t possible logistically but still. It also seems like a missed opportunity they didn’t think about a future link underground between the main complex and 7 WTC even in the early days of planning. Not sure if it’s even possible because of the Con Ed substation but would have been cool for it all to connect.

The new complex has primary (1-2-3-4) and secondary (5-6-7) buildings, so the arrangement makes sense. Mall connectivity would have been nice, but the Vehicular Security Center precluded such connections for all three of those buildings, not to mention complications brought about by the 1 train.
