A new hotel has been in the works for 47 West 55th Street for quite some time, and now, YIMBY has the reveal for the project. C3D Architecture is behind the design, which borrows aesthetically from some of the firm’s other projects in the pipeline, like 229 Lexington Avenue.

47 West 55th Street will stand 13 stories and 135 feet tall, and the building will have 75 rooms, both indicators that the project will likely be aimed at the boutique high-end market. The surrounding neighborhood is seeing a small burst of similarly-sized hotel construction, and across the block another hotel is in the works at 18 West 56th Street, which YIMBY revealed earlier this year, under development by Firmdale.

C3D’s design employs a glass and antique bronze facade, and the project’s massing conforms to the block’s existing street-wall, matching and improving upon the scale and appearance of pre-war neighbors. While the neighborhood has become increasingly upscale in recent years, especially with 57th Street’s vertical evolution, many shoddy low-rise structures remain on mid-block portions of streets through the 50s.

And now, with increasingly insane pricing, those old short buildings are yielding to some of the only attractive hotel developments in New York City. While no exact completion date for 47 West 55th has been announced, drawings have now been filed with the DOB, and groundwork will soon begin.
