NEW YORK | 319 West 35th Street | FT | 25 FLOORS

Mayflower Business Group is moving forward with its plans to build a new hotel in the Garment District, about a year after the firm had filed plans for another hotel a few blocks way.

The Wei Hong Hu-led firm pre-filed an application with the city’s Buildings Department to construct a 25-story, nearly 46,000-square-foot hotel at 319 West 35th Street. The new project will have 166 rooms, filings show.

Hu did not immediately return a request for comment.

The firm picked up the two five-story rentals buildings at the site, sandwiched between Eighth and Ninth Avenues, in 2016 for $28 million.

The filing comes a little over a year after Mayflower put in an application to build a 29-story, 65-key hotel at 58 West 39th Street.

Peter Poon is the architect of record for both developments.

I agree that it was good to save the old building, But surely there was a much better way to merge old with new.

It would be less jarring if they put the setback at the roof of the old building instead of two floors above it and won’t look like they simply grafted new a building to it.

Do you think this was a better way or worse way?

Well in that instance the old building’s were actually saved, they weren’t here, they were badly replicated.

WW. Better than what? Tearing down, doing a better design, or the actual new addition?
