@mcart are you referring to the massing to the left of 270? That’s definitely just a really poorly made 111 W57th St. Its in it’s location from that view point.

No I was just referring to 270 Park

Yeah I saw a reel of people signing the beam:

But I’m confused since there is once more tier to go?

Might be because its the last occupiable floor. :man_shrugging: I’ve seen that done in other skyscrapers as well.

It’s definitely not the grand opening though lol.

This often happens, they hold a topping out ceremony before the actual tower is topped out. I assume it’s because it’s the last occupied floor in the tower. This also happened with One Liberty, they “topped” the tower out in December 1986, had a ceremony with laser lights and fireworks, but the floors were done in January 87 and the spire topped out in May. And the Comcast Technology Center (also by F+P) held its topping ceremony when the roof topped out, but there was still 210 feet of steel to go

Gotcha, I’ll wait for the US flag or tree perched on top to get excited lol.

in my experience, its usually done because they had planned a date way in advance to invite the dignitaries. after that is set in stone, it happens to matter what the status is.

there have even been fake beams that are taken down after the fact.
