I’m glad you were out with the masses.

Boy, I really don’t like this building. The various facades don’t work well either together or with the fabric of the city. To me it’s a sore thumb sticking up in the middle of Manhattan.

This one really gets the thumbs down on this thread - to my puzzlement. :grimacing:

In terms of the all important Vitruvian Triad: beauty/solidity/utility - this one gets a passing grade with me regarding the beauty of the architecture. It is glitzy, quirky, intricate, and a visual feast for the eyes. The glass/metal panels on the facade are not only pretty; they look very high quality (and expensive) which is a big plus.

IMHO the architectural designers have created something that will be a popular success with the general public; which is what I believe to be the most important criteria for determining the success of any work of Architecture.

I truly wish we could hire a company like Reuters/Ipsos to conduct a poll on the national U.S. public opinion in the design of 262 Fifth Avenue - that would be proof positive. :star_struck:

I am also interested in seeing another important tectonic aspect of the Vetruvian Triad: solidity.

I do not know the difference between a Megalite system and an Enkoflex system; but I did enjoy seeing some of the construction technology that has gone into the SOLIDITY of project. Enjoy the link posted below regarding the Vitruvian Solidity/firmness/Construction quality…Cheers

The worst part of this building is its location - anywhere else it will probably be OK

I bet the cost factor on the this type of premium construction/materials is astronomical; compared to a more ‘building standard’ or generic building. The location had to be prime to make this project financially viable; I can’t think of a better place for this type of Architectural extravaganza than the middle of Manhattan Island.

I like this project so much that I am going to dedicate a song to 262 Fifth Avenue. This Russian Techno Mix seems a fitting choice: fun, quirky, intricate and delightful. :star_struck:

I mean they sort of “are” giant AC units serving the tower in sections, the mech floors definitely stick out as they are now but they still haven’t been clad over, that’s not the finished appearance. But it’s somewhat safe to assume that they will still partially stickout or be noticeable after the fact since on the latest render they just appear as blank gray bands and only the top most mech floor under the crown will be clad in the crinkled foil.

I’m voting for outer space.

This tower actually looks slightly better in person

It’s a fine tower. People just hate it bc of its location, which is granted, but unfair to the building bc it’s a good looking one (to me)

Location, location, location @Jaydayvis!

I can assure you that some people dislike this building for reasons beyond its location.

It’s a hot mess in general.

Consider this possibiliy for the various “reasons”.

There is neither a legal or moral obligation on the part of the developer to make this building look pretty/attractive/tasteful - that point must be firmly and firstly understood.

That being understood, I then apply my very low ‘standard of beauty’ regarding whether I LIKE the Architectural Design. If the appearance of the building is anything more than ‘functionalism’ - then my criteria for a LIKE has been met. In other words, if the building is not been designed purely as a utilitarian object, or a ‘building standard’ design: then rave reviews are in order IMHO.

On the other hand: I am quite the critic when it comes to the ‘fine arts’ of Painting & Sculpture.

Perhaps those who LIKE this building are simply applying (understandably) an entirely different ‘standard of beauty’ to Architecture in general. That is surely my reason for LIKING this building - and that may be also truer for others here on this topic.

Consider the different ‘Standards of Proof’ as use in the field of Law. There are different standards between Civil Cases & Criminal cases. Criminal cases are held to a much higher standard than Civil cases.

Most people (on average) do not hold the ‘design of buildings’ to this type HIGER STANDARD of beauty. I believe the vast difference in this thread (and others as well) are not only differences in taste/knowledge; but differences in the “standards of beauty” being applied when commenting on the aesthetic merits of a given work of Architecture. I KNOW 262 Fifth Ave is not Capital A Architecture - but by ‘my standards’ well worth LIKING.

Food for thought- enjoy.

I’m relatively certain this is the facade that will be on the core portion (which already has many clips installed on the southern side awaiting panels to be put up). The shade and arrangement are in alignment with the single updated exterior render. These are also the PV panels that are normally brought-up in articles. They will certainly make the building stick out even more since there will just be a dark stick attached to the tower, which is basically what it looks like now with the waterproofing applied.
