From the 25th, not much difference from my previous update from the Edge view, but the cladding will definitely begin to be visible from that vantage point shortly.
To quote Boss Nass, “Meesa like-a dis!”
In that last photo, there seems to be some sort of ‘peeling’ on the surface of the flat panel section directly the glass. It can be spotted by looking at the weather vane on the spire of the building in front of 262 Fifth Ave - right behind the roosters tail on the weather vane.
This leads me to believe this is a ‘peel-off’ film that may reveal another nice looking addition to the facade. I like the look so far: eye candy. ![]()
That’s a piece of flashing that has come loose, it’s been like that for a while now, the mockup facade I saw had no different material than what is now visible on the tower.
Good to know - thanks.
I presume that will be fixed at some point in the final construction review: aka ‘Punch List’. I never liked the use of the term “punch list” that referred to the various construction details that needed to be repaired/corrected/replaced.
I don’t know if the term ‘punch list’ is still used these days - but that exposed piece of flashing belongs on the list of defects or “punch list”.
I here suggest a more benign term: the “Clean-up List”. ![]()
I like that area of midtown, oddly enough, something about it just makes me love it and its not because the empire state building.
I noticed the cladding has stopped progressing for over 2 weeks now.
Don’t know why the cladding hasn’t progressed. There were alot of crated panels waiting at street level that have been there awhile. The crane is definitely moving but it looks likes work is focused on the crown atm.
I wonder how sales have been going for this.
The cladding is going slow; but as the saying goes - no fine wine before it’s time.
This building is the like a fine wine, and will be worth the wait. I am puzzled by all the controversy on the aesthetic merits of this building: some will be ‘off the opinion’ that it ugly, other beautiful, and most somewhere in-between.
I can only offer an opinion in my delight with this tower; and I do understand that it may be possible for one to be FACTUALLY right/wrong on what constitutes GOOD Architecture. So, technically speaking - I may be WRONG. ![]()
There is a good case to be made that ‘good’ architecture is not simply a matter of opinion - it is a matter of Fact true/false. There are a number of objective principals that can be used to establish/verify whether an architectural design is IN FACT good or bad.
The are many such principals I can think of on the fly: the golden ratio, the cannon of human proportions, the Classical orders Doric/Ionic/Corinthian, Palladian principals - and many more.
If one is sufficiently educated, experience & intelligent, and an expert in the field of Architecture; I believe one such expert can determine whether or not a given building is in-fact a good architectural design.
That being said, and with that understanding; I now prefer to simply state that “I like” or “don’t like” the architectural design. I am not an expert in the subject or have the requisite training; and therefore I can not make a ‘propositional’ statement of fact on the matter.
I am always glad to make a ‘normative’ statement regarding my subjective opinion on the aesthetic merits of a given work of architecture. This is an interesting subject to explore; but much too in-depth for this thread. ![]()
With that qualification; I will simply say that I like the looks of this building, IMHO - it looks great.
End of philosophical essay on art & architecture. ![]()
