Why does it seem like someone screwed up a decimal place when sizing this panel design?
Exactly. Had the same reaction (although expressed less cleverly).
I had the same reaction! - after seeing them so many times in pictures, I expected them to be much larger. To be honest, I was ready to hate this building in person, but it is just fine - the contrast between the texture of the shingles and the smooth glass works for me
Haha, yeah. From a distance it doesn’t look bad, but it’s just unnecessarily complex design for this scale because it will never read – you could achieve the same look from a distance with a much simpler panel. Most likely, someone developing this building thought this would be cooler and no one who knew better could convince them you wouldn’t be able to tell unless right up against it.
More and more I think about it - I believe you are 100% correct - why going through the trouble of designing such a complex pattern, to be completely lost when you see it from a distance.
reminds me of:
Oh wow, that was a big mistake haha. To your point though, big mistakes can happen because they can be sometimes more easily overlooked. Either that or they just didn’t know any better
Oh no, it’s because the Russians designed the building to be a gigantic micro wave emitter to turn Manhattan into an all encompassing Havana syndrome. It is part of Putin’s plot to take over America’s financial markets and destroy us!!! ![]()
All of those surfaces might do interesting things in sunlight, like sparkle.
Thanks to this marketing gimmick, the ESB almost looks as bad as the new neighbor to the south. I mean, does this read dragon…or Ginormous Glad trash bag that blew off the garbage barge and got caught on the crown?
Yeah gotta be honest they could have made the head/neck part pop off from the mast a bit better. From Queens, it kinda looked like smoke/fire. Not the best look.
hideous. If it ain’t King Kong, do we really want to see it? Godzilla maybe but not this.
I wonder if this was DOB sanctioned
hats off to Gary.
Wgaf about 262 Fifth, look at that glare from 1 WTC! Wow, what an amazing pic!
exactly
The building we love to hate.
